You guys are far too harsh. After gillen, leitao, and a heaping portion of bad football, im surprised we have a fan that isnt an alumnus. People need to relax...

You're pointing in the wrong direction. I think your post would be better aimed toward tugard.

Oh, and I'm not an alum either.

  • Tard....if you have to keep telling people to go back and read your posts, then frickin write your posts with more clarity. I think I can safely assume that there are people on this board with a higher reading comprehension than you accuse them of. The problem with them is not reading your posts, its you writing your posts. We go thru this every time you post one of your bashing incoherent rants.

True - I actually knew that. I think there might be like 4 or 5 in total on this board. Haha. And even less if you bifurcate those grandfathered in from the holland, welsh, and even jeff jones eras. The golden years for Hoos athletics that were easy to enjoy - though I speak vicariously as I was too young to really enjoy them firsthand.

These days, youre hard pressed to find a non-alumnus fan in their mid twentys or younger. One that isnt affiliated in some way - sibling, spawn, best friend, etc.

    And good point.

Tugard - relax buddy. Well be fine. Tonys a good coach and hell figure it out. No one here is expecting to permanently dethrone duke and unc from atop the acc any time soon. But I am confident Tony will assemble teams where all the little pieces manage to come together at just the right times - and we make serious runs for acc titles. Only 11 games into this season - with some in-season progression and maybe a KTH sighting, this could be one of those seasons. So lets sit back, enjoy, and see what happens.

  • I actually think there is an interesting point in the original post:

Somewhat unexpectedly, this year's team is dominated by upperclassmen, and I have to say that I am less bullish on next year's team than I was before this season began. I think the two big reasons why are Johnson and Harrel. Between the two of those guys, combined I was expecting 30-35 minutes, 15-20 points, and 5-10 boards. They not even coming close to that production, and frankly there is nothing right now that gives me much faith that they will be contributing much if at all next year.

This observation does nothing to alter my view of the trajectory of the program, but it just changes its shape a bit to be more bumpy: better this year than I thought, worse next year than I thought.

  • I agree with nyhoo and tugard (as already expressed above) that frontcourt will be a big question next year. We have three guys: Mitchell, Atkins and Tobey who can be expexted to contribute. Hopefully Nolte will be able to play some four. And as i previously said, dont forget that Scott was not much of a player his first two years. His improvement has been pretty remarkable. Lets hope are returning and new players can show that kind of improvement on an accelerated pace.

I am not sure how you can discount Harrell and Johnson for next year.... If anything Bennett has shown an ability to develop players.

Excellent post. As for u mrs e. If u read my post all im sayin is we are not as far along in tony game plan as u think an we will be an average team again unless there are some huge changes. Stop attackin me and read the post.

I've read your posts, painful as they may be, and we have a different philosophy on how we view a season. I'm not looking to next season. I'm enjoying this season. The 'Hoos are 10-1 with one tough game left before the start of ACC play. I'm also not expecting these kids to be perfect each game nor am I basing my opinion of this team after one game like you are with Seattle. And believe it or not, it is possible for players to improve from season to season(see Jontel and Sene). Yes, I expect this team to finish no worse than 5th in the ACC. First, the ACC is horrible. Second, we have a good squad with playable depth that allows us to matchup with different types of squads. When postseason starts and every possession counts, this team will excel with its D.

I'm bullish on the future of the program. Yes, we lose Sammy/Assane/Mike. That's a ton of experience and skill gone. That being said, I've liked what I've seen of Atkins. He doesn't hesitate on O and his D is only going to get better. Brodgon is one cool hombre with plenty of talent. Have you been watching him finish at the bucket with his off-hand, knocking down big threes, or finishing off opponents on the line? Big time player. Joe is a baller. Have you seen a smoother stroke? Jontel, smothering D and is now finishing at the cup. Akil, versatile athlete that can matchup with a number of positions on the court. Next year we basically bring in 4 new players; Jesperson(practicing with the team), Nolte, Anderson(elite hoopster), and Tobey. We may not be great early but I expect the 'Hoos to be a tough out come February.

I agree with this. Bennett has done an excellent job of developing players.

But I do not have a great feel about these two. Johnson's has been with the program 16 months and is lost on the depth chart and sinking. Clearly, the expectations were off on him. He may well stick with it and be a contributer down the road, but he is very unlikely to be a difference maker next year from what I have seen.

As for KT...I am not sure what to makle of him. I would not be terribly worried and write this off as a sophmore slump if not for his body language. He seems to want to be somewhere else.

    nyhoo

  • You can go ahead and discount KT now :P

    jphat007

  • If you have watched KT's body language in the past couple of games and he is seeking to transfer, I hope I'm not reading too much into JJ's body language he has looked disinterested since his playing time has dwindled, hopefully he will work that much harder there should be some minutes coming his way with the loss of KT and Joe Harris having to play more 2 and Akil playing the 3 now in those spots.
