Virginia Tech beat us fairly badly instate recruiting this year. fair statement? agree with the rivals rankings or not...they are close enough. and according to rivals, of the top 30 instate players uva has 8 and VT has 13 and will have 15 when they get kirven & joel caleb. they will also have 6 of the top 10 we will have 2.

hammerYeah, and Augie Conte should be ranked the No. 1 recruit in the state.

I'm curious as to what this post was leading to? Their staff has been established for two decades in recruiting the state and they have had many consecutive winning seasons.

    So, what is the point?

So if you subtract the might be or would be or could be commits we are did even? Serious question. Also it would suck to see them get Deloatch since he wanted to come here, but best of luck to the kid.

I for one would love it if London and Co. could get Deloatch to prep a year, I think this is the only way he gets to play at UVA. I don't know much about him other than he's a heckuva football player and that his grades early in high school weren't the best.

No doubt my dude kids gonna be good on the gridiron. He's a good kid who didn't take the grades in the classroom as seriously as he should have like a lot of stellar athletes. That said he did eventually busted his hump to right the ship, but I guess it was too late. Hope he lands somewhere so he can further his education as well as his football career.

I think a key for us going forward will be staying even with Tech in-state and staying even (or beating) Maryland with the DMV kids at schools like DeMatha and Gilman. As we start to get better, the random out of state high caliber kids will start to come, but these are the two key areas in my mind.

As for us compared to Tech, I think we got the guys we needed to. I'm more upset about losing Carter to Stanford than anyone Tech got. They may have had a decent class, but in terms of filling our needs, I think we did better than they did.

I agree with your Carter statement !

  • I think both schools have strong classes. It's tough to say which is better. We won't know for several years. I won't be surprised if this class marks the true swing of the pendulum in UVa's favor. However, I think it will be more a case of Beamer's decline vs. London's prime than a case of who had the better 2012 class.

  • Tek had to overhaul its coaching staff to pull even with us after last years whipping. I agree they slightly win out this year but we are doing what we need to do. And that's get under their skin early and often.

  • While I am not too proud to admit that VT has a great class coming in:

    A) For the great points already raised regarding roster fit, I'd take our class over theirs unless they run the table on Kirven, Caleb (overrated), and Ekenem. For now, that was sealed the moment we signed Eli.

    B) Hard to remember that far back, but their class took a major hit when they lost texas QB TJ Milwead (sp?). As far as I know, they still don't have a solid succession plan in the fold for LT who will get a lot of pro looks next year.

    So, what is the point?

Exactly. VT is going to get theirs ... they have a very, very good football program and have been incredibly consistent over the past 15 years. Their recruiting machine is in place and its humming along. Its really not fair to compare us to them right now. Moreover, the results on the field speak for themselves. They absolutely spanked us and that was a direct STATEMENT to us that we're not on their level ... and we're not for the time being.

London made a nice splash with last year's class. VT just wasn't going to sit back and concede the state to London. They shook up their staff and adapted to the new environment. Hats off to 'em. The important thing is that we still did well in-state and we're positioned to do well next year.

London had to stop the bleeding and repair relationships and he's done that. Getting our fair share of Virginia and DC Area kids is probably worth 2 to 3 wins a year alone. I think in order to take the next step for the program we're going to need to continue to break even in VA AND become one of the top 3 schools for blue chip kids who attend private schools on the east coast.

My hope is that they screw up the transition once Beamer retires and that enables us to get the upper hand for a season or two on and off the field so we can get some traction.

  • I've thought about it, and I think our class is slightly better, and it all boils down to one player........... MARIO NIXON!

In a few years, Mario is going to have a career day against the hokies, and we are going to win that day, and they are going to wonder how the hell they let him get away.

I did not rank the players nor do I have some voodoo powers that allow the publisher of one of the smallest markets on the 247 network to influence THE NATIONAL RANKINGS.
