Tugard, first if you are going to post, finish your FUC**** statement with proper english.
"i leave it at." You leave it at what? The boys on MNF would give you a serious "come on man"!

Second, if you seriously think Greer is going to sit down OR split time in favor a RS freshman, you are sadly mistaken. Aint going to happen IMO. Is he slower than some LB's yes, does he lack in pass coverage sometimes. Is he a leader on the field YES, does he make good decisions on running plays YES. Do the younger LB's in the system learn from him YES. Is he one of the best pure tacklers on the team YES.

Go back to day summer camp, JO posted many times that one of the most consistance tacklers on the field, is "drum roll", GREER. He knows what his assignments are and 8 out of 10 times he gets the job done. Maybe in passing situtations he should be releived for someone with more speed, that is Coach London and Coach Reids call. They obviously know more than you and me combined. If you REALLY think a true freshman is going to know his assigments better than a seasoned veteran you are mistaken.

I could care less if I get downvoted for this but I am sick and tired of people going after Greer. The kid is a good football player.

While I have mentioned Greer as having been abused in the passing game by both USM and UNC, I agree with everything you posted. That's the dilemma right now, we don't have people who are both experienced AND have superior athletic skills. That makes us vulnerable and creative offenses with speed are able to take advantage.

Greer is a leader on the defense, he calls the signals, and he plays his heart out. He's a great kid. However, he does get hurt in pass coverage situations and in pursuit. The reason Greer won the starting job over Coley is Greer's superior knowledge of the defense, the game, and understanding where he is supposed to be and when he is supposed to be there. He is currently the best we have at his position.

Our overall talent level and depth on defense prevents us from being very creative. We don't have Green Bay's Woodson to slip down to take the place of a linebacker.

Thank you 1wackyhoo. Greer is a football player in all aspects. These posts calling out our players by name are ridiculous.

Agreed. It's one thing to be down on the team - and perhaps rightfully so - but to call out individual players (particularly in college, as opposed to the pros) is lame.

Disagree...some players hurt a team, some help. To willfully ignore the problem a certain player does or does not bring to the table is a disservice to a truthful discussion of the team.

I will assume you are 1 of the 3 that downvoted the post. I can imagine who the other 2 are. It really does not matter anyway.

You are missing the point. It is not about calling an indivdual by name. Truthfully, I could care less about names. My point is Tugard is calling out a proven player that has earned his stripes on this team. Slow, fast, good tackler, bad tackler whatever! To think that Coley could come in as a RS FResh and play to Greers level is border line ridiculous, IMO. shrug

Coley is a RS Freshman for what it's worth. He has a year in the system.

I get both points. Obviously Greer has a better grasp of the situation. Tugard probably didn't realize that Coley was out injured. I think his post was more innocent them some give him credit for (and that's coming form me lol).

True, he may not have known Colley was out with an injury, however he has been the main culprit about Greer and wanting him replaced which says a lot about his knowledge of our currrent football team / roster.

let be start by saying why do people keep dwelling on the way he writes his post, you obviously understood what he was saying enough to complain about it, so you can understand well enough to respond without personal attacks, its getting old.

second for all you saying coley couldnt do as well because hes rs freshman, didnt greer lead the team in tackles as a rs freshman? i dont at all agree with people implying tugard saying coley should get a shot, and i 100% believe he will once he gets back in pads on game day.

And also it was said that he would split time and he did get a LOT of time until he got hurt.

  • Its Brutal when your losing and things get blown way out of control in pointing to certain player individuals who some may see as the reason for the losing. I personally dont agree with the few that are jabbing at the physical talent of some of the players. Most including me dont understand whats really going on. I.E. Greer was bashed last week against UNC but was voted by London and the rest of the coaches as the defensive player of the game.

Its funny how one or more of the pollsters rt above picks on Greer and pass coverages and lack of speed but makes excuses and defends Nicholson for the same blunders. I contend Its not either players talents as it is them being out of position, missed assignments etc. That is what is concerning across the whole team I think. DICIPLINE!!!! We have the talent to beat the team this last weekend as well as should have won the week before.

Besides the miscues and being out of position I saw some really good things out of the defense this last week. That series rt before the fake punt was awsome. Really got to feel whats its like to shut the door on an offense. I think we will see more of that as these guys make corrections. My fear is the kids are reading allot of the crap we are all posting as it couold have a negative effect. lets all keep positive and keep rooting for these kids on this board. Were at the point in the season where we are in a fox hole rt now with bombs going off over our heads and were all rightfully pissed about losing. These kids need to keep positive and we should be part of that as well. Talent is here now and more is on the way so lets make the best of it and try to get to a bowl game.

**Not saying Coley cannot do well at all. I think the kid is a BEAST and want him in there. However, he nor anybody on this roster can replace Greer at this very minute. That is my point.
