Zack jones & rankings

  • Jamie , heres what i dont understand.....and i honestly am not saying this because he is commited to uva. Which i am thrilled about. It seems from the vids ive seen that this kid is probably the best wr in the state. Particularly in the big playoff games where he doesnt just play well...hes fantastic...and as a junior. It also seems that zack was just as explosive and important to the oscar smith offense as jc coleman who was a 4 star and top 10 instate guy. Furthemore his coach said he may be the best they have ever had at oscar smith...which is impressive. He has good size, good speed, and great hands. Finally he comes from good bloodlines, brother of one of the better players in the acc that should help too, no?
So whats holding people back? Its not his play, not his measurables, and i dont buy the arguement that its becuase everyone knows he is a uva lock. That didnt hurt the kid van dyke who went to tech year. Just wondering what i am missing here?? Thanks.

this is just my view, but he was pretty much a lock for UVA so other big programs didn't bother..which in turn means that fewer people bothered to rate him..if you don't have big schools making offers people automatically make you a 3-star (assuming you are talented)

  • Perry Jones was a 2-star recruit. Marinate on that for a second.

Perry Jones against good teams last year
    FSU: 14 rush yards
    VT: 12 rush yards
    Auburn: 32 rush yards

He didn't log a catch against VT but he had 7 catches for 90 yards against Auburn and 9 catches for 62 yards and a TD against FSU. What's your point?

If you're saying you don't want Perry Jones on your team, you're full of crap.

What were his receiving stats those games? You forget he is most productive catching balls out of the backfield.

  • He had 9 catches against Auburn because it was a blowout and Auburn wasn't guarding underneath passes / dumpoffs once the game got out of hand. My point is I think he was accurately rated coming out of highschool, I also think that Richardson has a higher ceiling and should be utilized more.

I don't give a rat's ass what he was rated coming out of high school (he was rated by Rivals as an LB, not RB) and I'm still not sure what point you're trying to make by picking 3 games this year and showing his rushing totals. His rushing totals don't tell the whole story of how valuable he is to the offense.

    184 carries - 915 yards, 5 TDs (5.0 yds/carry)
    48 receptions - 506 yards, 3 TDs (3rd leading receiver)

Not to mention, he wasn't the one getting all the carries this year. KP had 152 carries, 709 yards (4.7/carry), 9 TDs.

If you're hanging onto the fact that he was a 2-star coming out of high school, then I don't know what to tell you. His production doesn't lie. Kid gets it done.

If you want, I'll pick a couple of games Danny Coale didn't have a good game and tell you he was accurately ranked coming out of high school. My point is, you wouldn't give a s**t, just like I don't about your ridiculous argument.

  • If you dont care... why did you just look up all of his stats and reply back to me? Ha my point is that when he plays good competition he doesn't do all that well. Back away from the ledge Ian.

Because I have little tolerance for Hokies on our board trying to make the point that one of our best players isn't very good.

My point was that you focused on his rushing totals in 3 games implying he had little impact in those 3 games when that isn't true. Simple argument.

If you could look me in the eye and tell me with a straight face you don't want Perry Jones on your team, then I'll believe you.

Va Tech against really good teams last year: 0-3.

So the Hokies must have really sucked last season.

    Same principle.

  • Fatalbert has started a VIP thread over on the VT site titled: "OT: Uva", likely bragging about how he got banned over here.

Predictable and pathetic, not necessarily in that order.

  • Against FSU, He also caught 9 passes for 62 yards and caught an unbelievable pass on a fade route to the corner of the endzone which they had to review it looked so crazy. One completion was for 16 yards which kept our momentum alive. UVA loses that game without him. Our only win in that stadium ever. You can't cherry pick a rushing stat when he is also a receiver for the team.
