No football team will ever be but so good without a top quarterback. The same is true in basketball of the point guard. He is the coach on the floor. He makes sure everyone is where they are supposed to be, and are on the same page both offensively and defensively every time down the floor. Maybe we need a top flight point guard who played AAU ball and at a top notch high school like Oak Hill Academy, as well as at UVA,like Cory Alexander, to be on staff and recruit top notch point guards for us. Mike London has done it by re-establishing relationships with every high school coach in VA. Whatever the reason, and whatever the cure, as good a coach as Tony Bennett is, we will never reach the heights of where we want our program to go, and where it is capable of going, until we recruit top quality point guards each year.
Excuse me, while I hit this sky hook.
WAHOO 4 LIFE!!
Point guards are typically better ball handlers and MUCH better passers than shooting guards. I don't think the difference between the positions is minuscule. Every good team needs a stellar passer, and we could certainly use one.
Sorry, to disagree with some of you but I really DO give Bub some credit here. I thought the guy did a good job of gettin to the the rim a lot. Now he fail to finish a few times but that happens to ALL guards because they are going into the trees. I like his speed and strength, and he constantly is getting better. We need shooters. PERIOD. when our shots arent falling we struggle. We didn't have the depth to get in someone for someone who was "cold" for the night. With 7 guys we only had what we had. Tony is obviously trying to recuit more help. But I'm excited by what we have coming, 2 top 50 guys plus some really good recruits IMHO and maybe now a really good transfer!! I don't think we are in that bad of shape folks.
