What is wrong with this team?!!!!!

Yeah Bennett's strategies towards the end of games has always been questionable. It seems like the team loses all of its aggressiveness towards the end of games, and I think that's because of the coach's strategy.

But Id have to disagree with you. We always put ourselves in the position to play in a big game, but we just cant get over the hump. Consider the USC baseball game that we completely choked offensively, consider the VT football game where a win would've put us in the ACCCG. Consider all of the big conference basketball games where we had a chance to really take the next step, but we failed to get over the hump. I've said this numerous time but the theme of this year's basketball team is good but not great.

The theme of this years basketball team is "hurt, not healthy."

SEVEN SCHOLARSHIP PLAYERS LEFT. AKIL MITCHELL PLAYED 30 MINUTES. A GUY WITH A BROKEN HAND PLAYED 35.

I'm proud of these guys for just competing. Every time they turn around this year, fate is taking a huge dump on their birthday cake.

In 37 years of watching ACC basketball, I can't ever remember a team having 6 healthy scholarship players at this point in the season.

By team you mean the 5 starters and 2 healthy freshmen? FSU had more guys score than we had available to play. Tonight we finally saw the defense affected by lack of depth. We score 40 but gave up 34 in the second half.

Im sorry but the depth and health issues are not excuses when up 11 with less than four to play. You have to live in the present

  • I have been a UVa fan since the mid 80s. In the back of your mind, you know these types of losses will rear their ugly head from time to time.
It is what you sign up for to be a Cav fan

Actually, those are the exact reasons you can lose a 11 point lead with 4 to play. Being able to have guys in the game that aren't phyiscally exhausted. Guys in the game that are better at closing it out at the line. Our lack of depth and health issues contribute directly to those problems.

  • You have no depth, combine that with the effort needed to overcome a deficit and build the lead left you with no legs...hence no killer instinct. Coaching kept you in this one IMO, the shots were there at the end, your boys just didn't convert, and give FSU credit, they made huge shot after huge shot....they also had a nice rotation off the bench, their boys were fresh and ready at the end

UVA back in Gillen's first year. I believe we played much of the year with 5 scholarship players, maybe 6.

To take your point a step further JoeHoo, the book on playing UVA is to press them full court in the last three minutes because teams are accutely aware of how many minutes our guys are playing. That little extra effort required to break the press causes mental and physical breakdowns that wouldn't normally happen.

I was at the game last night and was as disappointed as anyone because it was the only game I was able to attend but on that long, lonely drive back down 64 to Richmond I could count 2-3 easy stick backs that were missed, a beautiful pass to Joey Basketball on a backdoor cut that he needed to catch with his BROKEN hand and another sweet look to Akil Mitchell under the basket on the last possession that he missed. The chances were there but it didn't bounce our way. It was a great game by Mike Scott and the atmosphere was good. The sun came up this morning and I think better days lie ahead. Go Hoos!

  • We are last years FSU.... Tough gritty team that had some really tough losses. They made the tournament during a strong bubble year and I think they did pretty good! Go hoos!
