Watford enjoying the competition

Using every measure possible, Virginia quarterback David Watford is picking the brain of a relative that just so happens to be a coach on his football team.

  • Im just not sure what other posistion he could play besides QB

  • “We are all here to compete but at the end of the day we are teammates. We all want this team to win and win every Saturday.” - This tells me all I need to hear. Thumbs up!

  • The way that Gooch has progressed at wideout proves to me that if a kid has heart and talent he can switch from QB to WR and provide depth. I look at it as if it was high school baseball where the best player on every team plays shortstop but you can only start one in college.
Regardless of how it plays out, it is hard not to like Watford as a person. He is a special person.

  • Love the reports and Watford as a QB (or anywhere on the field for that matter), but was going to nit-pick a bit, I believe he's going into his four semester in August (Spring '11, Fall '11, Spring '12.) Sorry if I'm being over the top, it just made me stop and think when I read that.

  • Was counting the summer term since he got 12 credits there and will be on pace to be a grad student by the end of his junior year, but you are right in regards to how the school views it. Watford had said that two summer sessions equal one full semester.

  • Wish my baseball kids could have the same attitude as this young man, what a true TEAMMATE......

Man, I truly like this kid even more now, what a true sportsman, and cant wait for when he does get on the field, he has unbelievable upside, ML knows what he is doing and he def. has a plan for no. 5

Gotcha, I figured that the Summer sessions might have factored in, didn't know that two of them equaled one full semester. Thanks for helping to clear that up! Ya learn something new every day :)

  • I really like David Watford, and feel like we're very lucky to have him as our backup / curveball QB.

Assuming things go as planned (aka, Mike Rocco stays healthy and effective as our QB1 through the 2013 season), I think we'll be seeing quite the battle royale in spring 2014 between Watford and Lambert.

In any case, it's good to have a healthy succession plan at the quarterback position... finally.

If everyone only settled for good enough... would anything ever really be good enough?

  • I think if he don't get the minutes he want this year as a QB he will transfer. I don't see him having the skills to play another position and tht includes WR. I see him packing his bags and going to hampton U. Watford is a qb and a good one and he should see himself as a qb. So if he don't get the opportunity here go somewhere else. Unless he ok being num 2 and some people are ok. But if rocco strt the next two years he will have one yr to start and there is no way uva won't be chopping to get lambert on the field in two years. Shoot he might get a chance to start next yr as a redshirt freshman
