    Who the hell are they going to get that will be better? Its not a good job to begin with and now its pretty late in terms of the coaching carousel. And lets be real, mediocrity is good for VT, they should be at the bottom of the conference every year.

    First rate practice facility, lots of returning, young players, and the best signing class in school history (if it stays together) coming in. There is a lot to like about an opportunity such as this.

    Valid question -- although stranger programs have lured solid coaches.

    I guess it's the type of mediocrity (harassing other teams, usually losing to TB's Hoos) that I'm going to miss, and I hope that the new mediocrity does not involve more competitive games with the 'Hoos.

    Wouldn't mind if they hang an L or 2 on the Terps in the next couple years though. We'll need as many of those as we can get.

  • Hoping they bring JJ back from Clemson. He's the top recruiter we've had, players love him, and being a young coach he's a high reward-low risk hire.

    No established coach will want to come to VT given that VT will have a new AD in two years. Johnson will come cheap, be easy to fire if he fails, and certainly willing to extend if he succeeds.

    Best case scenario for us, IMHO.

  • Did not watch the presser but hear that Weaver really made a joke of firing Seth and really threw him under the bus. If half of what I heard is true, it won't help VT with the new coach search!

    Weaver is a short-timer. Don't think it will matter at all. The uncertainty of who the new AD will be is a bigger deterent.

    If the AD situation was resolved. I think Gregg Marshall would be our next HC. Will take seven year commitment though. Can't do that given Weaver's disease and short tenure.

    It's Duquense. Can only win so much. Had one of the better tenures in the history of the school.

    Many feel the school president was a little delusional and unrealistic in his expectations. Everhart was kinda a victim of his own success.

    You're only going to take Duquense so far.

Tech is the only school in the ACC to have never been ranked number 1 in any sport at any time! You have also failed to win an NCAA Championship in any sport. So yes, your trophy case is pretty bare.

  • I'd say the only surpise about Greenburg is it took until today. He has showed over the years at VT that he's really not all that great of a coach, He reminded me of our DL. When you have assistant basketball coaches leaving every year, that should tell you that even they didn't believe in him, who leaves VT to take an assitant HC job at ODU just to get away.

    This is definitely true. Everhart did a pretty decent job at Duquesne. Not sure he's an upgrade over Greenberg, but I'm certain he'll be an upgrade when it comes to sportsmanship and class on bench. I always thought Goonberg was a bad fit at VT, and especially in the ACC.

    Pending change in AD would be the least of any decent, established coach even remotely considering VT. Shitty job, shitty fieldhouse, one trick pony athletic department means Fester and his NIT run are actually the apex.
