Virginia-ECU Game 2 baseball thread

The Wahoos will send the same batting lineup to the field today after scoring 14 runs in the season opener. In watching the first game it was obvious that the order has a great balance of right-lefty-righty, etc. That will make it tough to bring in a lefty for just one batter (should the order stay this way as we move forward).
Scott Silverstein, a fifth-year senior, gets the ball on the mound for the team today. ECU will counter with 6-foot-4 RHP Ryan Williams. The junior is from California.

McCarthy slapped a single to left that plates two more runs. The Wahoos have batted around in the frame.

Papi was plunked with a 1-2 pitch and then Howard walked with the bases loaded to plate another run. ECU managed to end the frame with a grounder to short. Virginia sent 11 batters to the plate that inning.

ECU has two runners on base and two outs. Coach Oak just pulled reliever Whit Mayberry for rookie Nathan Kirby. This is the debut for Kirby, one of the top recruits in the country.

ECU loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th, but Kirby got a grounder to second to escape the jam. Time for the final inning in this one.
The Wahoos have only two extra-base hits in the game (two doubles).

ECU gets another run on a one-out double that dropped in the gap in right field. Kirby is still in the game for the Wahoos. No activity in the bullpen yet for the Wahoos. Coach K's will be livid that the ERA jumped up in this frame. It will take a few games to get that number back down around the figure he likes.

Virginia 13, East Carolina 9 - FINAL
The Wahoos get the win on the road and improve to 2-0 on the season. ECU is 0-2. The Pirates led 4-0 in the seventh when the Wahoos scored five runs. Virginia added eight runs in the eighth inning and held off a late charge in the ninth from the Pirates as they scored five runs off Virginia rookie reliever Nathan Kirby.
Derek Fisher hit a three-run homer in the ninth for the Wahoos. It was his first of the season.
