Three lead for Kamara

2014 Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor wide receiver Jamil Kamara has picked up 10 offers to date. Three schools stand out to the 6-foot-3, 190-pound playmaker.

  • The 2014 haul gets more and more amazing every day.

If one of UVa or VT comes away with the majority of these guys, they are set up extremely well for the 20-teens! If London pulls the majority, I think Frank might get a back-ache: Coach K style!

  • Why the hell would he even consider Georgia Tech, other than for academics? 45 catches - TOTAL - by their wide receivers in 2011, and that was Stephen Hill's 28 plus Tyler Melton's 17. So two wide receivers - TOTAL - caught passes in that system last season.

Don't go to Georgia Tech, Jamil. In fact, don't even consider those guys.

  • By comparison, UVA saw its WRs catch 152 passes total, spread across six different players.

    Couldn't agree more.

You could also argue that they've had 2 1st round WRs taken the last 3 years, but I agree with you. Hopefully it will be an easy sell to convince him not to head to Atlanta.

My thoughts exactly.they somehow keep landing talented wr's. Atl also has som beautiful women biggrin, but from a football standpoint, it doesn't make sense.

Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, Stephen Hill.....Pretty obvious why a talented WR would want to go there with the pipeline of 1st Round picks they keep getting out there

  • I can't recall us ever getting a player from Lake Taylor. They generally have at least 1 D-1 recruit but they tend to head out-of-state

    Hooduck

  • I think there coach is a Penn state alum or has ties to the school. I know VT gets some kids too.

Calvin Johnson was a product of the former coaching staff, and I believe Thomas was recruited by that staff, as well. Hill is the exception to the rule, and the knock on him all during the pre-draft process was the system that produced him.

Hill was a 2nd round pick, by the way.

  • To me, the bottom line is this --- the triple option is great, but no self-respecting wide receiver should ever be attracted to play in that system. Therefore, I sure hope we can pull Jamil Kamara away from Georgia Tech.

Hill isn't the exception to the rule when GT has had two feature receivers in Paul Johnson's tenure and they've both gone to the NFL with high draft picks. Thomas might've been recruited by the previous staff but it was Johnson's group that actually coached him. A GT feature receiver can do two things exceedingly well: destroy one-on-one coverage and block. The NFL is big on that stuff. "Don't go to GT if you're a receiver" is as big of a false stereotype as "you can't succeed at UVA because it's too hard and you'll fail out."

Okay Maize, I'll bite. You are Jamil Kamara. Would you really choose to go to Georgia Tech and play in the triple option? REALLY?

If I were a big, 6'3" guy like Kamara is? Yeah. I would absolutely take them seriously. You're talking theory, I'm talking results. Results like Demaryius Thomas leading the ACC in receiving yards. 46 catches, 1154 yards, and 8 touchdowns is an awesome season no matter what the system is. He's 2-for-2 in putting his feature receivers in the league - if a coach were 2-for-2 in putting quarterbacks in, QBs would flock to him.

If I were a 5'11", 6'0" slot type, I wouldn't go near GT, and they probably wouldn't be recruiting me anyway. But if I had the body type of a Demaryius Thomas or a Stephen Hill, and they wanted me to be the next one of those guys, you'd have to be absolutely crazy not to listen. "Sorry, I don't want to be a first-round NFL draft pick or follow in the footsteps of one, either." How many first and second-round picks coming out of GT as receivers would it take to convince you it's not a bad idea?
