Quicks heads up ...

  • I've been at the doctor's office all morning with my four-year old daughter because of an wrist injury she sustained last night in a field hockey game.

Long story, short ... Buckle fracture and they're sending us to a specialist here shortly. I have content ready for the rest of the day but I will be on and off the board in the meantime.

  • Bummer... hope she has a speedy recovery!

  • Best wishes for her recovery. Field Hockey is an intense sport. Some of the field hockey mothers scare the bejeebus out of me. They make the most intense football fans appear catatonic in comparison.

Thats the truth. Had a sick 1 1/2 year old that could not keep anything down to the point of dehydration. Off to the emergency room we went. It was all I could do to watch them put the IV in his arm. My wife was a trooper. I was trying, but it was all I could do to watch him in pain as they kept on and on with the needle. Still makes me wince.

Best of luck to you and yours JO. Don't worry about the board for heavens sake. Family first always.

We're back. Hot pink, waterproof cast freshly on. Now Addie's asking me if she can play next week for her team. Interestingly, the doctor said she could.

Yes, that's the first year they can start here in Fredericksburg. My 11-year old daughter didn't start until she was 9 and she has a huge regional tourney in Virginia Beach tomorrow with her 12U travel team.

So, in short, my wife still plays field hockey, I have a 4-year old playing field hockey and soccer, and an 11-year old playing field hockey. When I'm not watching football/hoops, it's all field hockey all the time.

When they are 5, they are allowed in the Octagon.

If everyone only settled for good enough... would anything ever really be good enough?

  • I wouldn't want any of my 4-year old in the octagon. She's ruthless.

And to give you guys a little backstory on Addie, she's a huge basketball fan. Not to embarrass him, I'll leave the screenname out, but one of the members here sent me courtside seats to a few games last season. I was on press row, so my wife took the girls to the games. Immediately, Addie became a huge fan of Mike Scott (he's just "Big Mike" according to her). Now, she watches all of the televised games and only pays attention to "Big Mike".

She watches UVa football games too but constantly complains about "Big Mike" not playing football as well. Last week, Mike Scott tweeted a picture of himself in a UVa football helmet. I showed it to her and received a lecture about why it was important for him to play both sports because she plays soccer and field hockey.

LOL! You know... he would make a great TE. I think your girl is on to something.
