Ok -- yesterday is over. Forget about it. It was a great season given the "circumstances" (lol Al Groh), but let's look forward to next season.
Im not really sure why it seems that the consensus on this board is that we're going to be considerably worse next year. I think next year's team has the potential to finish just as well as this year's team. A 10 seed in the tourney? That's not out of the cards. Here's why I think we'll be a strong and competitive team next year:
1) Size. Next year's team will be bigger next year. We will have a true center, which proved to be crucial when we lost Sene this year. We will add length on the perimeter with Nolte and Anderson, to accompany Jesperson, a HEALTHY Joe Harris, and Malcolm Brogdon.
2) Experience. This team will have so much more experience next year. Senior leadership under Evans will go a long way next year, especially because he is our floor general. Also, guys like Harris and Mitchell will now be in their third year, and Jesperson, Atkins, and Brogdon will have a year of experience and minutes under their belts. I know we got blown out yesterday, but that taste and experience in the NCAA tourney will also go a long way for this team.
3) Coaching. Tony Bennett is still a young coach. He makes mistakes. But he will learn from those mistakes and he will continue to implement his system that has proven to be successful with a healthy team. Tony is a great coach and he has a great staff, and they have shown that they can turn a 3* recruit into a 4*, and make the most out of their players given what they have.
4) Depth. Assuming no transfers (f**k you James Johnson and KT Harrell) and detrimental injuries (knock on wood), we will have a fairly deep team. I hope Bennett uses his bench a little more next year, because with the way this team plays defense, we need to have a bench that will give quality minutes in order to keep our guys fresh this late in the season. Having 8-9 players that can provide solid minutes will be key for next year, and I hope we stay healthy without any transfers next year.
I know many will disagree with me, and I know it will be very tough to replace an All-ACC player in Mike Scott, but I strongly believe we will be a good team next year that can build off of what we did this year.

Agreed. I think our defense will be better next year than it was this year (post Sene injury). That alone will keep us in the NCAA conversation. Its not like our offense was that good with MS this year. As a team, our PPP was pretty poor.

Damn bbb, I actually agree with you for once.....not only will we have more experience, we will have a bunch of guys back that got the NCAA tourney experience thing down. I know MS and Sammy were leaders this year, but I really see Joey picking his leadership skills up even more...he will be in this third year of starting, same as Evans...and Joey does have a fire in him....with the way we lost in this year's first trip back to the NCAA's, no way this team is going to let us get blown out like that again...
Forget all the naysayers, I truly believe this...we have a lot more guys now that have played a lot of minutes and been through the battles....add Nolte and Anderson who have won a lot in HS and we are deeper, just need to get those guys minutes. I think Justin Anderson really will bring the tenacity that we have been missing...he is a guy that other team's and fans hate....we havent had a guy like that in some time...

One thing I am worried about is scoring from the guard position. I'm not sure we have anyone on our roster that can be considered a scoring guard (I consider Joe Harris more of a 3 and he still needs to improve creating his own shot). We won't be that deep at 1 and 2 so hopefully we won't get any injuries there.

We agree, and pigs fly. Hahahaha. But good point on Anderson. He is that guy that nobody wants to play against, and we desperately need that guy. We need to add an intimidation factor when opponents come into our gym, and having players like him is just what you need. Another thing I like about Anderson is his "refuse to lose" mentality. He's a winner.
