  • Here's an excellent piece detailing the deregulation of some recruiting restrictions from our Notre Dame site ...

  • A mountain of work awaits coaching staffs that want to remain competitive in the hunt for top high school talent. They’ll get an assist from another new rule, which allows athletic departments to hire a recruiting coordinator that is not a member of the actual coaching staff. The only restriction for the new position is that he or she will not be able to travel to visit prospective athletes.

Ahem. Shawn Moore on line one.

  • I read the whole article and understand the unlimited social media contact afforded now, but nowhere does the mention any regulation on creating fake girlfriends to entice recruits. JO, please advise.

I've heard something like that in-line for Stiney as well. I hope that is the case at UVa. That would be a nice addition.

Clearly it's uncharted territory in this brave new recruiting world.

Too bad that these sweeping changes did not also include an early signing period for Football. That way recruits that have made up their minds can end the circus and the schools they have committed too, don't have to concentrate as hard on continuing to recruit a player already committed to their program. Of course the early signing period should give the recruit an out if the head coach is fired or some other legitimate reason as to why the recruit no longer wants to honor their Letter of Intent.

JO, any sense for how we will respond to the new rules? I.e., will we hire a full stay-at-home recruiting staff? And if so, any reckless projections as to how such positions might be filled? Could this be the seat Moore was initially slated for?

Additionally, could they do it before Priest Willis announces?

I heard a radio show today talking about the rule changes. Guess before when providing refreshments, you could offer plain bagels but you couldn't offer special toppings such as cream cheese. This was part of the attempt to level the playing field between schools with smaller budgets and those with larger budgets.
