London and Religion...

  • I think it's no secret that London uses religion as a way to connect with recruits that have similar religious beliefs as he does. However, after watching a video in which the team recites The Lord's Prayer before a game, it seems as though religion is commonly preached to the players. I'm fine with him using religion as a way to reach out to recruits who are also religious, but in my opinion, this seems as if he's forcing religion upon the team. Maybe I'm overrreacting...

    Thoughts?

  • Definitely overreacting. As stated by others, coach London isn't forcing those who don't want to pray to pray.

So how do you explain the entire team praying before a game?

And keep the downvotes coming for expressing an opinion! Tough crowd as always!

It's not a "everyone say this prayer or you're not seeing the field today" situation. To me, it's "let's do this action as a team before we head out on the field together". He's not going to stop and make everyone start over if people don't say the prayer. You can still participate in a team activity by grabbing the hands of the guys next to you, but London's not forcing anyone to say a word.

Good point. Makes sense to me. I never thought London forces religion on his team, but the video really gives off that vibe. I was just playing devil's advocate..

  • definitely overreacting. CML's team prayers arn't hurting anyone. people try way to hard to find something to complain about. not singling you out just speaking in general terms.

  • OP why do you care? Why don't you go walk your dog or something? This is the most unmerited religious post I have ever seen in here. "But in my opinion, this seems as if he's forcing religion upon the team," it would be helpful if you could substantiate your opinion with a modicum of even debatable evidence. Maybe ML is forcing them to don Ballet tutus during meetings? I will look in to that.

i don't see why it would concern you, i think it's safe to say it's a voluntary not mandatory prayer.

CTB is probably more religious than CML, should we investigate him too?

Unmerited? Evidence? Watch the video I posted before you call me out and try to belittle me with your attempts to use sophisticated vocabulary. I'm really impressed with your use of the word "modicum." I know what that word means too..

Ok and now I have realized that I was overreacting and I have no more concern.

This debate is conflatacious. There isn't an iotor of enlifening verbillance here. CML is incomfatably leading the team in a secularitic way but encouraging guys to express their religious postulatories should they choose to do so. Get it together guys.

Trim the fat off your soul.

  • This topic is fodder for TechPoopScoop. London is a devout Christian like some of us. Many of his players are too. I'm sure there are a handful who doesn't pray with the team and that is their choice. From everything I've read about Tony Bennett, he is very similar. I've read some nasty posts from Tech fans who claim that London uses religion and his police story to wow recruits. The only place you see this trash is on their message boards and that is where is belongs. They don't understand that recruiting is a lot more than playing football. It's finding comfortable place, playing for the right people, and having a heirachy of support for everyone on the team. This is why we have Eli Harold. He didn't commit to UVA because he grew up a fan of the university. He met Mike London and the coaches and knew that we offered more than some of the other schools he was looking at. We offered more than football. That simple. Mike London and this staff are genuine no matter what those Hokies say on their site. If getting closer to the Lord is a quest for these young men, then more power to them.

He doesn't "use" religion as a recruiting tactic. His faith is a big part of the man, just like TB. I give your post a 1 on the trolling scale, 1 being the weakest and most obvious.
And you may find this hard to believe, but a lot of people believe in God in one form or another. Mr. E. spoke to God on a number of occasions during the final quarter of the FSU game. And during the VPI game, Mr. E used several words with religious connotations. For example; holy sh*t, Jesus, God ******.
