he doesn't sound like a grown man to me, grown ass men don't make petty excuses for their failures and shortcomings. who's fault is that?

The whole meaning of what i said was Jared is his own man, dont ever come after a guy on how he raised his kids.

I think you may have misread the post you were commenting on. The poster was stating that Jared is a grown man and he should show some class and not make excuses for himself or blame other people that have been in his life for his own shortcommings. If ML treated him so poorly, then how was he unable to crack the starting lineup for an FCS school? The only thing consistent about Jared Green is his mediocrity as a wide receiver.

You are giving him way to much credit.

  • If his last name wasn't Green no one would have put a mic in is face and he would be just another former player with a reason they weren't good enough to: get an offer at a D1 school, start, play more, be the captain, make the high school team, not make all stars, get picked last in dodgeball.

  • I understand why Jared is so bitter. He did watch Michael Irvin own his daddy over and over and over and over again coffee

That was me, in the second post of the thread. I said: "I hope I do a better job raising my son than Darrell Green did raising his."

You're right, I should not have said that. But the quotes really pissed me off, and Jared is clearly not a grown up, not yet. I'd be horrified if my son ever made comments like that given the circumstances. Horrified and furious with him. That wasn't Darrell Green saying that stuff, but he certainly enabled it.

So I stand by what I said, even if it is a little bit over the top. I was a fan of Darrell Green, and I was fully behind Jared, even after he decided to transfer in search of more playing time. Was a fan of Darrell Green, was behind Jared. Was. Not any more. And I hope I do a better job raising my son than Darrell Green did raising his, given this one specific quote.

I agree with you Kendall. At what point do you measure (or form an opinion) how a man has raised his kid(s)? If I beat my wife in front of my kids, I could reasonably expect my kids to beat their wives/significant others when they get older. If I curse in front of my daughter, I expect her to say something inappropriate at an inappropriate time.

While these aren't the same things as what took place with Jared Green, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to think that his upbringing didn't lend itself to having that sense of entitlement, and not knowing when to avoid a subject and show a little class. Perhaps Darrell is a stand-up, very respectable individual, I know that he has come across that way over the years. But, I would think that less than 1% of the folks on the board actually know Mr. Green personally, or have even met him. And, if his offspring is going to show his ass to the media, I don't think it's fair for anyone on here to try and censor what you say about his parenting skills.

Obviously Jared is a grown up, since he's over 18 and this could have just been a poor choice of words, or a mistake...but, we are all a product of the environment that we grew up in to a certain degree. And, if he is this vindictive towards someone , it doesn't really seem like a mistake from those quotes. I won't give him the benefit of the doubt here, because he is a grown man. So, I personally believe that you are correct and some of this has to fall at his dad's feet. Perhaps the majority of us are wrong, and Darrell is upset that his son said this. But, it's not as if Jared was his own role model, he had to learn to act this way from someone. Behavior is learned for the most part, so he got this attitude from somewhere.

His experience at UVa occurred during trying times in UVa football, on and off the field. He RS'd in '07 with London on board, before his departure to UR. Coach Groh gave him some PT in the next 2 years, and he may actually have enjoyed a favored status with Al as HC? He had to be aware of the dysfunction around him in team morale, even if he were riding the beast when Coach Groh was here. He may have figured London as a clone of Coach Groh and may have been disappointed as a result as Coach London runs a very different ship. He correctly read that London would recruit the 757 hard, but he may have misfired with London's strategy. London was looking for ready/readiable talent, and Jared may not have been it. After the 2010 season the 5thyears were all put on a bubble for scholie renewals based on their actions in the spring practices. It is possible that Jared made the deliberate decision not to play that game and left. I agree that his environment at home and at UVa were big factors that resulted in his statement, but there is more than one side to it, and it his stance is not that surprising to me. ><

Exactly. And thanks for getting my back on that.

Maybe it's unfair to Darrell Green, but I always held him in extremely high esteem because of the way he played the game, and now that opinion is damaged because of the stuff his son just said to the media. This message board will be at its best when we're all being honest, and that's me being honest.

So youre saying that if somebody parents smoke there children are going to be smokers also?? Its plenty of children out here that parents smoke for years and they have never tried to smoke before, and the oppsite way around also. You cant get mad at what a ex player says that is not true and then hit his father with a low class comment about how his father raised him. Do you think ML thought twice about what Jared said?? really. So i stick by to what i said you never downgrade a man on how he raised his children because everything they do they dont always get from you and thats the TRUTH!!

Sometimes when the realization occurs about one's own shortcomings, it had to be someone else's fault. The fork in the road is squarely in front of you and decisions are made. It appears he took an alternate route. That's a shame. I wish him well.

  • Tallhoo, I wasnt necessarily disagreeing with your premisee. I think you have some merit with your stance. I don't believe that a kid will grow up to be exactly like their dad was. Obviously we are human, and thus we know, and are aware that we can change, or be our own person. But, I do believe that the best indicator of how someone acts is how they were raised. For instance, I think if a young child had no manners, its probably because the parents either don't have manners themselves, or didn't teach them to the child. Obviously, there are no 100% right or wrong theories on this, because we are self aware beings who can choose not to smoke if we don't want to. That being said, all the kids I grew up with, every last one of them, whose parents smoked did indeed end up smoking when they got older. take that for what it's a worth

I think you guys are missing the greatest mistake ... "to play receivers from the Tidewater area": Kris Burd, Matt Snyder, Darius Jennings, Ray Keys, Dominique Terrell, and Tim Smith. Those are your WRs that caught passes last season and exactly one of them is from the Tidewater area.

Lest we forget that Tim Smith redshirted Jared's last season, 2010, at UVA with an injury.headslap

  • Jared Green's comments are so absurd it barely deserves a response. As the parent of a former Oakton High football player I can tell you first hand that no one following the team during his tenure there thought Jared Green had the skill level to play at a BCS level school. Jamie may recall a post that offered upon hearing that Groh/staff were recruiting Jared, I suggested he needed a year at a prep school. Predicting Jared's inability to be a contributor at UVA was a very easy call to make before he ever step on grounds.
