Lost in the vt guy expposing himself as just another yahoo hokie clown is the fact that the original tweet is right. Mike smith will regard the sims transfer as a slap in the face and likely validate in his own mind his attempts to stop watford coming here. Though I am not sure it matters anyway as we have been dead with hhs since bryan smith graced us with his missed extra points. Watford only came because of hagans.

This is so spot on. We're talking about a guy who thought he should have been considered for the UVA job when Welsh retired. Textbook definition of legend in his own mind. If Simms had gone to HHS Smith would have had him running the option.

Wow this thread got crazy yesterday!! Sorry I missed it.

So Congrats on getting Sims.. I can't wait to watch the competition play out with all of the QB's you guys have..

Do you guys see him starting the opener this year?

I'd definitely rather have our "problem" than Tech's. If Thomas goes down, y'all are screwed.

Personally I don't see him beating out Rocco in August. I do see him getting ample PT vs. Richmond, however, similar to Watford last year.

  • Sims. It's, Phillip Sims. Not Philip Simms or Phillip Simms. Let's get used to spelling this name right. grumble

Although I would agree with you on our QB situation I feel real comfortable with Mark Leal playing QB.. He throws the ball very well probably better than Logan on the short to intermediate routes. I'm just glad we were able to land to outstanding guys this year in Bucky and Parker.

As far as UVA goes it will be an interesting development. For the hoos sake I think the really need to decide before the opener who they are going with and not try the dual qb thing again or it could spell locker room trouble.

If Sims gets the waiver, may the best man win and that is what I am confident London is preaching.

Is Sims does not get the waiver I assume you will see 12 start as 11 ended....but Rocco/Watford will get a long preview at what they are competing against in Sims this fall....as we come around into 2013.

Talent / physical attribute wise, the question is already answered as Sims has them all beat..minus say Lambert (but he is not even in the 2012 discussion).

Rocco and Watford definitely know the playbook and the receivers timing, tendencies and ability. That will undoubtedly take time for Sims gain a feel for...so we shall see just how long soon.

Rocco and Watford both have shirts that could be used, but I do not see this happening unless Watford agrees to a position change.

The "Hokie sensitivity pledge" that Dwight Vick whined about involving Mike Smith is out the window. London gave Watford 6 to 8 games in 2011 to take the job, so promise fulfilled. Not many true freshman get a crack at a BCS level QB job.

I see Watford sticking this thing out til the end...he is fast enough to have other options on the field.

If Rocco is unseated, Unfortunately I could see a move to UR next year to be with his uncle. Think the Strauss family would like that??

There is little doubt that that Lambert needs a shirt, which would leave him a minimum as two years as the man. He should be thrilled!

Rocco will probably start the first few games but if Sims measures up to praises we are hearing (mainly from Alabama fans), I think he will probably overtake Rocco mid season. Rocco has the edge in knowing the offense but Sims played in a similar offense in Tuscaloosa. It's a very similar situation Tech had with Randal/Vick II and Glennon/Taylor. It will work out in the end.

  • I guess the other problem that might come around is with all of the QB's you have on the roster how do you break up practice snaps. I mean they always say there is only so many in-game snaps to go around but that saying goes the same in practice. I wonder how they will get the younger guys or the guys lower on the depth chart some reps in practice so they can develop and eventually compete for the job.

Lambert is in a good position. He will have two very good qbs to learn from and by the time he starts, he will be seasoned. I don't think Rocco leaves regardless of what happens. Even if he loses the starting position, a back up is only one play away from being the starter. The Watford scenario is intriguing. I don't know if he want to play another position but the kid is deceptively fast. If you watch the highlights of the Indiana game, a fumble is recovered by a Indiana db who scoops up the ball and races to the endzone. Watford who is not even close to the fumble springs downfield to almost make a play. Corner/safety/receiver could be other positions open to him but he would have to redshirt this year to learn his new position.

  • Sims, Rocco, Watford, Lambert, Johns, are our five qbs. Johns signed before Lambert but still chose to remain committed to UVA. Competition doesn't seem to scare him and he could be a very capable back up if he loses to Lambert a couple of years down the road. No one knows if Sims will play next year. Watford could change positions. Not sure if the qb from Good Counsel will stay committed but that is a choice he will have to make. A lot of options here.

As I've said on your board, there is the chance of some locker room trouble but I think that is wishful thinking by the Hokies. No doubt there is some risk to this development but there are huge rewards if Sims is as good as advertised. I've had some concerns with this transfer but now that it has happened, I'm 100% behind this coaching staff and trust they will make the best decisions to move this team forward. No way London could turn down Sims. If Sims had interest in Tech, no way Beamer turns him now either.

This play is one that definitely stood out with Watford. Unreal how he took off!

  • IMO.. if Sims does get the waiver, there is no chance Rocco beats him out in the fall camp..Sims is that good.

IDK it has been a long time since Sims has played in an actual game that had meaning to it. Rocco has something that Sims does not have and that is game experience in D1 college football. From what some of the Bama guys said is that he reacted slow during game simulations and never really adjusted to the speed of the game.

But hell I have no idea nobody will really know until about a week into fall camp.

Practicing against Alabama's defense probably stunted Sims development, wouldn't you say?
