Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr. visited Penn State on Friday, Virginia on Saturday, and has three other visits set for this week.

  • Wow, 400 yards rushing. That's definitely an eye-popping number.

  • I can't wait until the time in the very near future that recruits will continuely say: "it's an honor to be recruited by a school" like UVA. I would suggest that UVA deserves that recognition now much more so than PSU after their recent football scandal.

  • Take a hike, pal. No need to let your bitter Pa self out of your shell. Unleash this bs on the PSU site but, be careful, that site might be monitored closely.

You'd have to find an offense. Good luck with that.

You are right. As a big PSU fan, we really do need to find an offense. Last year was really bad offensively and very frustrating for us fans - but with new coach BOB we are expecting/hoping to see a difference. Just not sure how far can go in one year - especially since we have the same QB's who were mostly ineffective last year. A lot of us are concerned about the UVA game, and see it as a good indicator of what kind of season we will have. You guys have a really good team and program and it will be a real test for PSU. Looking forward to the game.

One thing "rally eagle" said that need to comment on, the scandle was not a PSU "football scandal" - it is the Sandusky scandle. An ex-coach who was not a part of the football program. For those who have read all the reports and understand the scandal, disgusting acts against the victims, and role of those involved - and have not just listened to the hyped up media that did a very poor job of reporting facts, just dragged Joe Paterno's name through the mud to make headlines - this is the deplorable Sandusky scandle, not a PSU football scandal - or Joe Paterno scandle. Do the research and you will understand. But again, the real victims are the kids - and it has had a negative impact on our program, but nothing like the impact on these kids and their families. I hope you never have to deal with anything even close to this - it has been a sad time. But we are rising from the ashes and will continue to be proud of PSU, the integrity of the program, and success with honor.

Every fan base has them. He's not representative of most PSU fans. Hurst seems like a great kid, if PSU doesn't have room for him I'd far rather have him end up at UVA than OSU or UM. London is doing good work.

Having said that, it's been pretty amazing to see that most recruits understand that this was not a football scandal, while the general public persists with the fallacy that somehow the entire school was "in on it". The people involved in those events are gone. Penn State is much bigger than the actions of one man or the inaction of a few others. Lots of people get that, some don't.

I hate getting involved in stuff like this but you are right. Media makes the general public very uninformed/stupid/gulable. This guy is a mutual recruit and will be in good hands either way. Sandusky is a creep and deserves no sympathy, but it was under Pa's scrutiny. To be honest he was old and I think you all are in better hands now. Good luck to y'all this fall (but not really).

In my own opinion, Joe Pa was too busy losing control of the program to admit the faults he was a part of elsewhere. His legend actually led to his demise. He did way less than he should have and his punishment was deserved and needed for y'all. Take it as you will.

That spin control BS won't play here. I've followed the scandal closely and even read the grand jury report, Joe Paternity and the PSU admin was neck deep in covering up Sandusky's actions. The sicko was welcomed into the PSU VIP boxes at home games well after the investigation ws public knowledge. The lack of followup action by Paterno after the report of improper touching in HIS locker room is criminal in my opinion. Same goes for his bosses. The arrogance of those involved from PSU is appalling. If it was up to me we should be refusing to play you.

The PSU community may try to stick their heads in the sand and pretend this is one man's scandal, but the rest of the world knows better.

"The scandal was not a PSU football scandal"? Really? What was it? An academic scandal? Granted it was vile acts centering from one individual, but it also involved your ex-DC who was still granted permission and access to football facilities at all times (he had the F"in keys to the athletic facilities and showers for heaven's sake). It involved a seemingly morally paralyzed football staff that included at least one assistant coach and possibly the head coach. At the least, it involved one individual who not only didn't stop a grown man from raping an innocent boy in the athletic showers. While at the worst, it involved grown men at the highest levels, including an icon of a football coach, an athletic director at a major D1 institution, and the President of a Big Ten University that chose to "turn the cheek" in an effort to preserve the money making machine of men's college football. While nobody in their right mind could perpetrate such a heinous act, it's with hesition a reflection on PSU on multiple levels. And in light of who it involved, where it occurred and how it was handled, it is unquestionably a PSU football scandal.
