'Hoos top Hokies, 74-58

Virginia traveled to Blacksburg in search of a much-needed ACC road win. The Cavaliers will return to Charlottesville with that in tow after Virginia Tech, 74-58 on Thursday.

  • Why was tevon out again? He sat the whole first half against Fsu.

Probably for forcing the ball on offense a couple of times. I also think Bennett trusts Browman more out there. Browman has probably been out best PG at taking care of the ball, which is great when you have a lead. I think if we are down probably Jones comes in to generate a little more offense. Just a hunch. Personally I love Browman getting minutes. He is a smart kid, with a lot of heart that treasures the opportunity to play. I thought the charge he took on Van Zegren in the second half was a big play. Kept the lead over 10 and killed the Hokies momentum they would have gained.

  • Not that it needs to be pointed out, only one Hokie player was mentioned in the ENTIRE article.

I don't buy this at all. I think Teven screwed up off the court. I like Doug but Teven is much, much more capable. There's no reason Teven should be on the bench at all. I love his game and he will be a starting PG next year. He should be out there. Don't know why he isn't...

I'd be very surprised if Perrentes isn't the starting PG next year, at least by conference play

I don't think London will start at PG, but I think he'll find plenty of minutes in a combo/SG role.

  • How many times did we hear the announcers say freshman or sophmore on the floor for uva. I can't remember the last time we had so many young players on the court. The future looks very bright

Browman is good with the ball, but can't defend against taller PGs. Green had a field day with him. Was only slightly better with Evans though.

What was that all about? The Maroon Buffoon or something of that nature? I've not heard of teams doing that before. Was it just this game or do the Buffoons do it for every home game?

  • I think the Maroon Monsoon was just for last night. +1 for making me laugh with the Maroon Buffoon.

While I am posting, here are my thoughts (some things I'd like to see change)-

Joe has taken his game to another level. He knows he is the man and plays like it. I love his toughness. I'd like to see Joe make all of this free throws in the last 5 minutes.

Evan played with a lot of confidence. Other 1st years did as well, which is nice to see, as they didn't perform real well in the other two ACC road games. Hopefully, they will play the same way in future ACC road games. Some of Evan's steals were huge.

Browman's defense on the charge was the biggest play of the game. The RTD said that fans threw water bottles on the court after that. I'd love to hear thoughts from some hoos who went to the game. Did they threaten a technical and give a warning? They did that when a superball came onto the court during the FSU game.

Back to Browman, I love him to death, but don't know what heck Bennett was thinking. Tevin seems to have a much shorter leash than Anderson.

At the end of the game we denied the ball to Green. I'd like to have seen that all game. He played outstanding on offense. His defense isn't great, but I still feel that he is a terrific player who will play in the NBA. He is a whinny POS too.

Lastly, I'd like to see Bennett do some things outside his box sometimes (see ball denial to Green above). We run the same defense and the same several offensive sets. Don't get me wrong. Bennett knows his stuff and you can see that through the great in-bounds plays. What I am getting at is when there is a mismatch, I'd like to see us immediately go to it. Last night, we should have cleared out for Joe posting up Rankin. Joe did post, but we didn't clear out so Joe couldn't ever take advantage of the mismatch.

I'd love to hear others thoughts on my thoughts or others analysis of our players and team.
