  • It's definately foxfields. Their is no doubt about it. Sorry for my ignorence. By the way, it was really hard to type this on my iPhone as it kept correcting my mispellings. Honestly, as a vet of foxfield I'm kind of ashamed that I really didn't know how to say or spell it. This year snapped my thirteen year consecutive streak as it was unreasonable to head there from London. Won't make te mistake again as I'm somewhat of a closet spelling nazi.

Then you might as well call it "Homecoming", "Easter", and "Final Excercise" as well... It seems like "Foxfields" is just a substitution for "Foxfield Races"

Actually I'm pretty sure the added S from Homecoming somehow leaked over to Foxfield. Final Exercises is fine. The various schools break up and have their graduation so that one makes sense. Easters was always Easters....even though it not longer exists. Foxfield has most definitely never been called Foxfields until the last decade or so. As someone who loves the event (Day full of T-Ball today ended a 20 year long string for me), it's beyond annoying to hear students try and rename it.

End of old guy rant. frustrated

Well the Kentucky derby just refers to the one race, while Foxfields :-) refers to multiple.

Actually there are eleven races the day of the Kentucky Derby and they are all referred to as Kentucky Derby races. The one that gets the hype and is on television is just the main event.

  • I cant believe there is even any debate about this. Its FOXFIELD, no S. Drive out the Garth Road and read the damn sign. Foxfield Races. Its been that way for 40 years and thats the way it still is.

  • the only thing worst than calling it "Foxfields" is caring if people call it "Foxfields."

    Seriously.

  • Ok guys, you all are right. From tonight up through my tenure as a UVA student and beyond, I vow to call this event "Foxfield". After some serious consideration, I finally gave up trying to convince myself that it's called "Foxfields", and with the help of some Hoos on this board that have attended Foxfield for many many years, I will now call the event by its legitimate name.

I'll put it this way. Next week the Steeplechase tour goes up to Leesburg. And nobody calls that event Gold Cups.

Fair enough. You've convinced me. I was just a bit bitter today because I've been studying for exams all day while Foxfield was going on...
