Virginia Football to Host Oregon at Scott Stadium in 2013
Cavaliers to Play Eight Home Games for the First Time Beginning with BYU and Oregon
Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia and Oregon will meet in football for a two-game series in 2013 and 2016, the schools jointly announced today. The teams are scheduled to meet Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Charlottesville and during the 2016 season in Eugene at Autzen Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Virginia previously announced the 2013 season would begin with an Aug. 31 home game against BYU.
Oregon finished the 2012 season ranked second in both the Associated Press and USA Today college football polls. The Ducks went 12-1, including a victory in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. It was Oregon’s fourth consecutive BCS bowl appearance. Since the 2009 season, the Ducks have produced a record of 46-7.
The addition of Oregon to the 2013 schedule means Virginia will host eight home games at Scott Stadium for first time in its history.
“We initiated a conversation with Oregon about a potential game in 2017 in Europe,” said Virginia Executive Associate Athletics Director Jon Oliver. “As the conversation progressed it became clear we might have an opportunity to initiate a series in 2013 starting inCharlottesville. We saw that as a great opportunity for our program and ourfans.
“The chance to add Oregon presents us with the unique opportunity to have eight home games in a single season. Kicking off the season against BYU on Aug. 31 and playing Oregon on Sept. 7 will be a challenge, but one that Coach London has been on board with since the very beginning. I am hopeful that our fanswill embrace this schedule and create a home field advantage to help make our team successful.”
“I’m looking forward to playing eight home games next season,” Virginia head coach Mike London said. “We want our players to be able to compete against great teams. Bringing BYU and Oregon to Scott Stadium to start the season will be a tremendous challenge, but one our team is preparing for now and is very excited to take on.”
“It’s our desire to reschedule the game at Penn State in the future and we’re hopeful we can come to an agreement as to when that will happen soon,” Oliver said.
In addition to Oregon, the Cavaliers’ home slate in 2013 includes BYU (Aug. 31), VMI (Sept. 21), Ball State (Oct. 5) and ACC opponents Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.
The Atlantic Coast Conference is expected to release Virginia’s complete schedule with specific dates in February.
2012 Virginia football season ticket holders will receive renewal information by email on Tuesday, Jan. 29 with the option toenroll in an auto-renewal program that includes an installment payment plan. Season tickets for the 2013 season provide the best value and will be available at five price levels based on seating locations at Scott Stadium: $345, $314, $230, $198 and $176. New buyers may reserve their 2013 season tickets by participating in a $50 deposit campaign.
Playing a game in Europe? Did I read that right? That would be awesome if it ended up happening.
Told you guys that you would like the opponent that replaced state. I'm thrilled with this.
This is great news and will be great exposure. I have a feeling our spring ball and off season work outs are going to have some extra swag to them now!
I must break you!
I lift wights with a big time donor to the university and he said that the Europe trip is till in the works possibly. He didn't know if it would still be with Oregon or someone else at this point.
Between Oliver's statements here and Penn State's statement it actually sounds like we cancelled on Penn St. Regardless, I like adding Oregon.
Doubtful, but I do like Oregon too.
u must not seen all the post tht hate this. look further dwn sir.LMAO
Strong statement, love it!
We need to get some metallic orange helmets or something for this game...so we can beat Oregon at both of their games.
And this will be the company to do it, if it happens ...
You guys are missing the big picture here...
