Harris is my favorite college player ever (Stith a 1b) and Bennett is the best coach out there imo (staff included)
Posted this in another thread, but it's not active, so I'm gonna ask here too. Is Bennett definitely here for good? I sure hope so, but an imminent opening at Wisconsin has me very worried. I remember Bennett speaking very highly of Charlottesville in general being a great place to live and raise a family. Also, he has set a great foundation here and UVA is really about to explode into the national scene. However, I also know about his strong ties to that program/state in Wisconsin. He could prove to be the best thing to ever happen to this basketball program, and it makes me extremely nervous to think about Bo Ryan retiring in the near future.
Money can make most folks less sentimental, with what he's built and demonstrated to date I'd imagine we'd stop at nothing to retain him. Charlottesville is one of the top rated places in the nation to live, I believe we have our man for the forseeable future. Also to consider with the addition of Louisville, Pitt, Cuse and ND the ACC is unquestionable primere league. It's hard to fathom the potential of this program moving forward.
This is not a knock on Mike London, per se, but he's 8-16 in the ACC and 1-5 against our 3 primary rivals. Yet, the AD saw fit to bump his salary up to 2.5/yr, despite the fact that he wasn't exactly in demand, other than some nebulous Penn St rumors. Tony Bennett is a former national coach of the year, has a winning record against our 3 primary rivals, and is a shade below .500 in the ACC, despite taking over with just as bad circumstances as faced Coach London. I can guarantee you most programs in the country would slice off their left one to grab a coach of his caliber. Clearly, it's time to pay the man, well beyond the extension with no raise from last year. Coach is a far better man than I, or he'd have been pretty insulted by the gesture.

Name a coach who left UVA for a better job. It doesn't happen. Ever.
Bennett ain't just no coach, he's the real deal and young, he turns us around and he can choose a job.
Not disagreeing with you, but its MUCH easier to turn a basketball program around versus a football one. Also, I believe London gave 500k back to the school for the IPF correct?
It's easier in the sense that if you pull a Gottfried/Calipari and get a couple one-and-dones/Mickey D's guys, you can improve your squad really really quick. Clearly, that is not the tact taken by Bennett, who has completely overhauled the program and gone with the steady improvement approach. I think after London's 2013 season, it'll be a pretty fair comparison as they'll have each had 4 years. Given the early results, it isn't much of a contest.
Coach London did donate a healthy amount to the Practice facility but isn't he still on 2.5 million/yr right now? That's 500k/yr more than Bennett.
Finally, I'd like to emphasize that my posts aren't meant to complain about London's salary (I couldn't care less, as it's not my money), but more as encouragement to shell out the necessary money to keep Coach Bennett around.
TB totally out coached MG tonight. TB dictated the whole game. He went small and eliminated the post advantage that Murlin had. Gottfried followed, did not counter. TB can play chess, Gottfried plays checkers
Turgeon, not Gottfried...
