Remind me why we are looking for a DC and DL coach again. I would like to have these guys re-instated with an apology. We shouldn't be replacing our best coaches on the team.
Wow, three people like the firings. I stand appalled. Maybe the board is just in a bad mood. It is justifiable.
I don't think anyone can know the outcome of these moves until replacements are named and we see the performance of the defense in 2013 and beyond.
I agree, I was shocked and believe they were forced upon London; that being said, if a certain coach comes in and we have a very aggressive disciplined defense and a bunch of sacks and interceptions, woohoo!!

What good does this do? Reid and Hanson are not coming back, it's best to move on and think positive. Do I think they necessarily deserved to get fired? No. But it's not like our d had a great year, we were near the bottom at turnovers and sacks, and around 70 in scoring D. A change was needed in the program. And as noted many times, Lazor's contract did not make it possible for that to happen. Time to move forward.
I didn't downvote you but I'm starting to come to terms with what happened. Here's the logic I'm using.
This defense, while it improved, was incredibly vanilla. Attribute that to youth, not having playmakers, whatever you want. The fact is that minus the NC State game we didn't generate any turnovers. If the offense had managed to perform with any semblance of stability I think there would be grumblings that the defense is holding the team back. While I like Jim Reid and wish he hadn't been fired, I'm hoping that they will bring in someone who installs a pressure scheme which can generate turnovers and put the offense in a position to succeed.
My biggest question is could Reid have done that himself? Who's to say that now that his players (specifically the secondary) are more seasoned he wasn't prepared to turn up the heat next season? The timing stinks, but given the right kind of incoming scheme it might be the right decision in the end.
Fair enough. I hope Reid and Hanson understands that a majority of us disagree with the decision. I loved both of these guys and watching "The Building of a Program" really had fans connect to both of these personalities.
Great post. I would have liked Reid to have had another year with the talent becoming more experienced. Thanks for not being a downvote bandit. There seems to be several of them on here that likes to destroy posters that disagree with them.
hell i get downvoted just for posting
Take it as a badge of honor chasencarz. At least someone cares to take the time to give you piece of their mind.
No downvote here , because I do not know what the right answer is here . I respect your passion and don't understand the decisions, I think Reid in particular is the one that bothers me the most . I guess we all will find out the answers in the near future , only then will we know if this is the right decison and what is best for the program .
The ability to downvote is a feature I wish they would remove from this site. It sounds good in theory, but in reality it's a bad idea.
Yes, I think Reid could have done it. Do we really think he wanted to run vanilla defensive schemes? I think he had to because of the youth in the secondary.
The last half of the season showed me that, bare minimum, the defense was capable of holding its own and creating + plays for the team (NC State game, Fumble return for TD against Tek). The offense, on the other hand, was inconsistent all season as exemplified by the trainwreck we witnessed at QB all season.
I don't think Logan Thomas would call our defense vanilla.
No downvote here either but I do disagree. Theres a huge difference in being a GREAT guy/outstanding person and being a great coach. IMO both are great guys and outstanding individuals who, if also great coaches, would have had FBS schools knockin their doors down to hire them at some point.
Rehire Reid and Hanson.........Retire Oliver!
