What shaking bacon. I was saving this for monday but the quietist day in Grounds history made me push it up a day. I guess the men promise tu spend one day without being on the computer. Anyway, back tu the reason for this letter. I am very worried about you. Even tho your coaches, teamates, and your fans know how much you mean tu our team sucess, there is a great chance your minutes will be drastically cut. It may be cut tu the point you will be out of the regular rotation. Now of. course im not Bennett and. I have no idea what going tu happen. However if evrrything goes as planned and my incredible knowledge about the
game(LOL), you will be our fourth bigman. This is why and by no means I was told this. I see Akil and Anthony starting. I see a bigger a
nd stronger Mike Tobey getting starter minutes and what left over sliding Evan down as a stretch four. Now why im nervous. I believe
you know you can play on this level and play very very well on this level. Because of that you will become frustrated and not accept this new role. Which in the end will make you transfer. And I pray that does not happen but we all have tu keep it real and see it a possibility. But I hope you realize one of the main reasons why you chose UVA over Notre Dame, which is making UVA relevant again and a school that compete for championships. Your roll as a leader, supporter and practice player will be just as important as Joe making three point shots. So I pray you be a happy camper and honor your committment. We would be devastated if we lose you. Now if the minute situation does not turn out this way and you starting or getting mad minutes dont hesitate tu call me stupid. I know people on this board will. Peace Out
Dont mean to hi jack my own thread but by the end of the week a dream may become true. Thank you whoever you are spiritually in those clouds. This been a fantastic tu months. Now all i have to say yo you know what i want. But nothing LOL you dont have a choice. When offered take tu seconds and say yes. That why nobody outside of thesr websitesknow me by tugard and my register name was borrowwed from a very close friend. So nothing i say here can be trace tu individuals. I never wanted my keeping it real hurt the many kids i know. Since being on this board ive helped four kids get in prep school and tu into college. Both low level universities. So this week may change everything
Dont mean to hijack the thread but hell it my thread. At the end of tu weeks my dream scenario may become true. If it doe s happen i promise it wont be drag on however i showwed thre kids gamees and im slowly showing them that this team just dont play YMCA ball. Plus if we start of good i know five players 2014and2015 kids that highlty respect wgat i say
I also think there is no way kids should play 30 or more minutes. Kids should go all out and kids be beginnin to come out the game they are so tired. I paid close attention tu his substitution patterns and the first sub occurs around the 13 min mark while most teams first sub is before the first tv timeout. We cant continue that substitution pattern if we want tu share min for ten deserving kids and 12 if you ask me. No more 30 min plus games unless he is on fire. I mean heat. Also tu leep players happy treat all the kids the saame way. One thing i noticed jontel would make three mistakes during his stint. As soon Teven made 1 mistake he was pulled right away the last few games Bennett started seeing what I saw for a while and that the offense ran better with him at the point. I love jonel game and tenacity. People say he cany play defense which i totally dissgree. Share the min Bennett and you will have bench and an extremly deep team.
Darion does not strike me as being one those guys. Meaning I think he will fight like crap for his minutes. Same for Teven. Don't know the kids, just a hunch and from what I have seen on tv.
I definetly agree cav tex and thank you for responding. Teven and Darion will run thry a brick wall figjting for time. Hpwever Bennett will never have a rotation of 11 guys. The most is nine. What big man sit for Darion, Evan three point markan, Mike a potential all acc and future nba player. Anthony, the most TALENTED player on the team and let me say i heard our coaches say this tu sundays ago, or Akil most improved player in the acc, second team all acc, good low post scorer and defender and a rebounding maniac. Now Teven is a little diffent cus we dont have last year tape for his competitors but i sumise Devon and London will be given half of the season tu get stuff right and on offence they a huge upgrade ovet jontel and a litte better player than Teven. Than you have Malcolm waiting for that opportunity which i dont agree but that a lot tu overcome both players who we all know can play in this league. Again I dont see Teven sticking around if im correct. He one of tu players i would hate tu lose. He is fierce, tough, rough, dedicated and competetive player. O yeah he can also play. I see Barnette being happy belonging on the team. That enough for him
I agree with you on the substitution patterns. We need to see Joe Harris' minutes reduced to about 28/game in order to avoid running him into the ground like we did this past season.
As for Darion, I'd say he's likely 4th in the big man pecking order, but Bennett wants to go 5-deep on the perimeter/wings and 4-deep inside. Nolte in a flex-4 role is a wildcard, but Atkins should get post minutes over him.
Two things Darion will have to consider is whether or not he'll be a starter in 2014-15 (his senior season), and the likelihood of one of the other three bigs getting hurt at some point -- something so likely that it's almost set in stone. Bigs always get banged up, especially the guys with less weight on their frame, like all four of our guys. Ultimately, I think Atkins sticks around, gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 minutes (with spikes up to 20-23 if/when another big guy gets hurt) and then takes on a big-time role as a senior in 2014-15.
Teven Jones on the other hand... I think his playing time is about to completely disappear. But maybe he can scratch out 8-9 mpg while the frosh PGs dip their wicks.
Two last points:
1) Tu, Bennett favors his upperclassmen to an extreme. You just have to know and accept that. He also seems to carry a bit of a bias against guys who have been in the doghouse at any point in the past, something that applies to both Atkins and Teven Jones.
2) Losing an end-of-the-rotation guy to transfer isn't always a bad thing, as it opens up a scholarship with which to recruit a potentially better player and/or a player that fills a more pressing need. With these two freshman point guards on the squad and the class of rising sophomores now totaling SEVEN players, a Jones transfer wouldn't be the end of the world.
Atkins sat started this year after being in the doghouse as did Jones. Not sure there is any bias. Atkins played a lot until he got injured. In terms of favoring upperclassman, we only had 3 this year so it is hard to gauge the trend. I think if underclassman are good enough (especially on defense they play). Harris, Harrell, Brogdon, and Anderson all played good and important minutes as underclassman. I think early in the year Bennett generally favors upperclassman due to experience, but I think the mix shifts as the year wears on.
Did you mess up when you said Harrell. I was told personally from a coach that the team is so talented an equal everyone will have tu fight for play. Nothing is being handed tu them. Now that could be coach speak but i hope it not. The perimeter is deep and will be deep in 2014 i know personally i wouldnt suggest sending kids tu UVA if they go by veterans and not skills. One of these players is a potential five star and he havr tu sit. I dont think that would work. I can guarantee it wont work. So the best talent should alwaays pay
