I get as much fun pulling for us to hold our opponent on defense as I do hoping we score on offense. I start to get hyped up and cheering around the 12 second mark and excitement grows as the shot click winds down. I watch the scoreboard hoping we keep our opponents under 50 points. I pay more attention to the defensive end if the floor. It took a few years, but I not only support Bennett, but I now am hooked on defense. And Anderson continues to make ridiculously athletic plays on D, love it!
We are on the brink of something big!!
I must break you!
I'm finally glad as well, that people are starting to see what Bennett talked about when the talent got better the offensive pace would get faster, he's made it clear the past couple of weeks that if the open shot is 5 seconds in the shot will go up if it takes 30 seconds then it will take 30 seconds. Great game by the guys tonight. Anderson's backwards alley-oop dunk was sick!!
WAHOO 4 LIFE!!
Anderson is getting better every week. I am excited to see this team finish out the season and already giddy for next year...and then the Stith era returns. This program is on the verge.
I agree. I explained the same thing to one of my fellow Hoo grads who was telling me how boring and "unsustainable" Bennett ball is. I love watching our team play.
Seriously, it's like watching regular porn for 20 years and then someone drops a box full of midget porn off at your house. Sure, at first you watch for the novelty, but then you find it to be interesting and exciting. I've said too much.
We may not be "exciting" in the sense of running up the score, but I love watching us play. Every possession matters and when things are firing on all cylinders (like they were tonight), damn is it a thing of beauty.
I'm loving the development of Anderson's game. I'm not surprised he has developed a bit of a dribble drive game due to his athleticism, but in the last couple of weeks he has become a legitimate weapon in the midrange game. He has excellent vision and passing sense too. If he ever gets to be a 35%+ 3-point shooter, be becomes borderline unguardable, especially since he has so much energy and never seems to stop moving.
Honestly I think Bennett ball is one of the more sustainable systems for a school like ours. We will never out-athlete schools like Duke, UNC, or NC State. They have tradition and bring in tremendous top talent. What we can do is get top 100-150 guys and make them a very solid team, that has a staple that will travel anywhere (defense). The missing piece for us is one or two more guys that can consistently score (besides Harris). I think we have young guys that can become that (Tobey, Brogdon) to go along with guys that can get hot (Anderson, Nolte). If we can maintain the level of defense we play (which we should), continue to get a little more athletic, and more consistent scorers/shooters, we can beat anyone. I think we are good enough right now to beat almost any team, we just aren't at that level of consistency that you would get out of a more well balanced, veteran team. That's why I am so excited for next year!
Next year we return everyone except Evans. Everyone will be a year better, and then we add 2 guys who we know are really good players who WILL score - Gill & Brogdon. Then we add Devon Hall who has a high probability of being a solid contributor for us. We are absolutely stacked next year. 2013-2014 UVA basketball is one of those years that doesn't come around often.
I love midgets
I wanted to upvote this, but I felt dirty :)
This made me laugh like a loon for 5 minutes. Bravo.
I was thinking last night how quickly Bennett has conditioned the UVA fanbase to really appreciate his style of basketball. The JPJ erupts for a shot clock violation in the same way that it erupts for an alley-oop dunk. That's pretty awesome and unique.

Agree, I've noticed that over the course of his time here.
And when we do get a good collection of those top 100-150 guys (like we're establishing right now) we can reasonably expect almost all of them to stick around for at least 2-3 years, if not all 4. Then, even when we go up against a more athletic team, we have a cohesive group that has a lot of experience playing with each other and knows each other's tendencies. If we stay on that track we can be one of those teams that makes a deep run in the tourney on those years when we have mostly upperclassmen garnering the large majority of minutes.
BUT, we're also grabbing some top end talent to throw in as freshmen as well. Recipe for domination.
Nothing like starting the weekend with side splitting laughter, thank you
Obviously meant for Mr E
