Coach London

  • So the new hot topic for Espn and hokie fans seems to be London will def leave for a "destination job" as soon as he can. This upsets me to the max. I have thought London is a UVA guy, thinking all along he will pull a Welsh type tenure here. The more i hear though the more i think hes gona bolt as soon as his contract is up with UVA. What is everyones thoughts on this? It would be horrible for our program if he did leave, but I feel hes here for the long haul.

  • No way he's going anywhere. He'll probably parlay all of this buzz into a nice extension (and by no means am I saying that's a bad thing), but I get the feeling he's here until he doesn't want to coach any more. What (besides more money) is in it for him to leave? Like someone astutely posted earlier this week, he's a VA guy, and he's not one to drag his family all over the place.

  • I really think that too, but so many people outside of the UVA family really keep talking him up leaving. I think hes a long term guy for us. Hes building somthing here I believe and to leave would look bad on him to future recruits and fans possilbly. I just need to block out all the jealous non UVA people. lol. Im just so excited for rest of this season and the future of UVA football. I just hope my season tickets dont go up super high in prive lol I just bought a new house and dont have the extra money for that to happen!!!!

  • Let's look at it rationally...

    1. This is only his 2nd season here. No way he'd leave after such a short stint.
    2. He wouldn't go to the Pac 12 or Big 12 (not on their radar or in his area of comfort/recruiting).
    3. He wouldn't go the Big East (dying conference).
    4. He wouldn't go anywhere inside the ACC because he's showing he can win right here.
    5. That leaves the SEC (not exactly the pedigree that SEC schools typically look for in their coaches...i.e. southern/experience in the conference) and...
    6 The Big Ten. Besides Penn St this year (and he's not jumpin to take on that mess)....do you see a school in the Big Ten that would 1) feel he's a fit for their program; and 2) he'd leave us for?

    Bottom line, I'd be very surprised if he would want to leave here for another college gig so long as he's winning and we pay him accordingly if so.

  • Hokie fans are praying he leaves, they see what is going on at UVA and they don't like it. They see a coach and a program that is on the rise, and is going to get better, and they are scared, ML is not going anywhere chokie fans, and we are coming after you ! GO Hoos !

    Mike's not going anywhere. Name one coach at UVa who has ever left for another college gig!

  • LOL...this is nothing more than a Christmas wish from the VT fans who would "HOPE" he moves on!lol

    Iron Mike ain't going no where but it would be wise to lock him down for the long term and UVA is his final stop...he'll be here for the long haul and the good part is that you haven't seen his plan fully executed just yet. Wait until he gets 3 classes of his own THEN you'll bigger things.

    That's the ultimate proof of the hokies' fear. They know he's really good and they're hoping to scare away recruits by using the "he'll leave for a bigger program" ploy.

  • Where's the speculation? It's a bunch of talking heads that are saying these schools SHOULD look at him. You know what, they're right. Schools should look at him. But that's all they're gonna be able to do. When have we EVER, EVER lost a coach to another program? We're U "Mother F-in" VA. We burn cash to light victory cigars. We paid for a $130MM facility with cash money. We pay GT's DC salary.....'cause we can. Need a practice facility....here ya go. New track....you take a check?

Same goes w/ this staff, thats where the real magic lies, keep them together or suffer the same fate as before. Its great to heap praise on the man but understand the whole picture, Richmond ain't exactly killing it and they added a national top 5 HS QB to two London classses. Now thats totaly different dynamic but just saying.

  • I hear you Coach! If the things I worry about, Mike London leaving UVa is not one of them. I think he is our kind of coach and we are his kind of university. It is a great match and Coach London is just getting started. Go Hoos!!

    True, I love what coach London is doing, just wanted to point out that without continuity it will fall apart, this staff and these old players that get seemingly little due (wait til Londonm gets his guys, like these aren't up to snuff) are making Coach look real good. It'd be a tragedy to get the program revived like this then loose a Lazor or Reid, Brown, Hansen, Wac and so on and on. I didn't mean to take anything away from coach but this resurgance is a group effort and nothing short of picture perfect, here's to keeping it rolling. GO HOOs !!

  • Name the head coaches who have used UVA as a stepping stone. I can't think of any. Name the ones who've come to UVA and never left until retirement. Now, the latter one is a long list. The school (and town) is a magnet.

    That will all be addressed very soon. I seriously doubt you'll see many of these guys leave any time soon. There are just a couple I could see leaving. But even that's not for certain.
