Wow, this is getting epic. -41. This puts my Metheny posts to shame.
First of all, I don't know why everyone is so adamant about the legality of Clifton's actions. I never said the hit wasn't legal. Read my post before you jump to conclusions.
Clifton's helmet made direct and solid contact with another player's exposed temple. Watch the play. That FSU kid is LUCKY. What would you have done if he had left the field on stretcher? cheered?
If you guys really think it's OK to kill someone on the football field, then you are taking your football way too seriously. Based on your response, I'm assuming you would have liked to have seen the FSU player die. That is really really sad.
For what it's worth, I watched the game with a room full of UVa fans, and every single one of us a) breathed a sigh of relief when that kid was OK b) Thought Clifton's actions went too far and were unnecassary
While you guys would love to make it seem like my concerns are absurd, I know many UVa fans had a similar reaction to that play.
I appreciate the post about London talking to Clifton on the sideline after the play. That was the only worthwhile post in this whole thread.

I didn't really respond at all to the original post (much less down-vote it,) John, but your response is absurd. Nobody wanted the kid to die. Good grief.
The greater point is that you out of the blue write this up a full 3 weeks after it happened and for no apparent reason. You also seem to be assuming that Richardson intentionally hit the guy in the head, when I'm willing to bet it was a simple question of momentum and whiplash. Richardson didn't exactly lead with his helmet, as I recall, he just hit the guy so hard that his head snapped forward. It happens on nearly every play, but on 99.9% of plays guys are smart enough to wear helmets.
But again, the issue isn't really the stance you're taking. It's the fact that you felt the need to post about it at all. What did you expect to happen? You know how it goes. If you're going to willfully post a dissenting opinion at least do so in context and with the expectation that you'll get down-voted a bunch.

Why the need to post at all?
Because I'm VERY superstitious.
It's a long story.
Meant to post this before the VT game, and I never got around to it, and we got crushed.
The superstitious side of me feels like part of the reason we lost is because Thomas Jefferson would have wanted me to say something about that play.
So I'm posting about it now, so I can get off of Jefferson's shit list before the Auburn game.
I honestly believe that posting this will put me in good standing with TJ, and give us a better chance of beating Auburn.
I KNOW it's insane, but most superstitions are.
Feast on that.
