  • This young man is a natural fit for DBU. Virginia Tech develops DB's for the NFL like no other University. At least one DB drafted every year going back to the 1990's. Torrian could take this raw talent and make a pro bowler out of him.

Thanks for all the upvotes Hoos!

Anyone have actual statistics on VT vs. UVA DB NFL players?

I legitimately thought at first that he was referring to UVA at that he had Roy Reynolds as his avatar. shrug

You can't simply claim the title to something like DBU, it has to be given to you from someone outside of your school/fanbase. Nobody else in the country feels like you are DBU".

    LSU: (12)
    1 - Ron Brooks - Bills 4th round pick
    2 - Morris Claiborne - Dallas 1st round pick
3 - Ryan Clark - Steelers Super bowl Champion
    4 - Travis Daniels - Chiefs
    5 - Chris Hawkins - Titans
    6 - Chad Jones - Giants
    7 - LaRon Landry - Jets
    8 - Danny McCray - Dallas
    9 - Patrick Peterson - Cardinals
    10- Craig Steltz - Bears
    11- Curtis Taylor - Raiders
    12- Corey Webster - Giants

    Virginia Tech: (6)
    1 - Roc Carmichael
    2 - Kam Chancellor
    3 - Brandon Flowers
    4 - Cody Grimm
    5 - DeAngelo Hall
    6 - Jayron Hosley

This is just current players in the NFL from one other school. Let's look at others: Alabama has more DBs (yep 10) than you guys as does Texas. Ohio State has 14, Miami and South Carolina have 8. Hell, Notre Lame and West By God both have the same number (6) as you. I would NEVER call myself "___U" without actually having a verififed track record of success. And, just because they were drafted doesn't mean ish. You are counting Jimmy Williams in your "DB drafted every year" crap. How good was he???

    lol at the tryhard hoo.

If we are counting guys just drafted you might as well include our saftey Eddie Whitley who signed with the Cowboys as a free agent. We've had some guys retire lately, like Preleiu, Sorensen, etc. but with more guys coming up like Fuller and Antone Exum and we will be replenishing our NFL ranks shortly.

I noticed you didn't list UV on your list. Oversignt, I'm sure, but on the off chance you left your school off because you can't compete, then I suggest you allow VT to have this conversation with the LSU's and Bama's of the world since they are more directly our football peers.

Oh, and look for Manning, Bonner and Jerrett to get drafted or FA into the NFL as well. You come to VT and you will get a NFL shot. Even Cris Hill who only played significantly his RS senior year is getting a FA shot with the Buffalo Bills.

It would be interesting to see how VT develops DB's in comparison to Alabama if you factor in how highly rated the raw material was coming out of high school. At VT we turn 3 and 4 star guys into draft picks and FA's. From there, some turn into 2 deep guys, others flame out and still others make pro bowls. Alabama starts with 4 and 5 star guys and only does slightly better. You'll have to pardon me if I don't hold my head in shame over how VT develops Dbacks.

You guys take a guy with the bloodlines of Frank Minifield and he doesn't even get drafted. Frank was one my fav NFL players all time, so I hope Chase gets well and makes it with the Skins.

Say what you will but there is a CRYSTAL clear difference between VT and UV when the topic of DB's and their chance at NFL comes up.

Aren't you guys supposed to be TEU or something like that? Hope that works out for you.

I almost stopped reading after your first line, because I was counting only guys that were drafted, since that was your WHOLE PREMISE BEHIND BEING CALLED DBU. Jesus. You bring up guys drafted to support your DBU sham, and you throw out a guy that wasn't even drafted??? Are you serious, or trolling? I can't tell. Are you saying that LSU, Al, OHSt haven't had guys retire? UVA has 3 DBs in the League, one of which is close to being a HOFer. If you're going to count Whitley, then I will count Chase. The biggest difference is, I'm not on my rivals MB posting how we are DBU, or some other U. No, I'm on my MB having to set you straight.

You guys are not peers with either of AL or LSU. You can't beat them. You have a very solid college program that has already reached the heights that you will ever reach, and are currently sitting on the precipice of mediocrity once your leader retires in the near future. You guys have been kings of the playground while the big boys had been experiencing down years. You honestly think that Beamer is a better coach than Bowden was? They're not even in the same conversation. Bowden has two rings, one of which he beat your best team ever for, man up. But, luckily for you, Bowden was in the downswing of his HOF career when you joined the downtrodden ACC. You guys have been the class of the ACC for a while now, but every Talking Head always says the ACC is one of the worst BCS conferences, and your performance in big games is a major part of why they say that! It's no coincidence that you lose, usually handily to your "peers" when you see them in big games. Congrats, you've been the biggest kid in the schoolyard, but regularly have your lunch money taken when you venture into big boy land.

As far as how HS rankings affect the NFL prospects of your DBs, let's take a look. I think we all can agree that DeAngelo Hall is the best, and certainly had the most professional success of any of your DBs. He was the #2 player in the state of VA his Sr year of HS. Every year that is, at a minimum a 4 star. But, he could have been a 5 star back then, but we'll use 4 star so you don't look so bad. This was before the star system became popular. Jayron Hosley was a 4 star CB also, just so you are aware. So, you took a 4 star (minimum) and turned him into an NFL player? I think most schools can do that. FYI, Morris Claiborne was only a 3 star CB. I personally think that ALabama and LSU do slightly better than just "slighty better " than you guys do.

You want to throw out Cris Hill? Hell, Jared Green is getting a FA shot at the NFL, and he really wasn't any good. FA shots are just that, an outside shot at making the team. There are hundreds of these guys every year. Every single school has them. And you are trying to support your argument about being DBU with this??? Your backpedalling is better than what Torian Gray teaches to your DBs. Oh, and nice cheap shot at us for Chase Minnifield. You do realize that he was injured right? You do know that he came to us after suffering a torn ACL in HS right? So, we took a CB with great bloodlines and a history of injuries, and he would have been drafted fairly high except for the injury he suffered, but played through this year. I think he developed just fine, and just like your all-world players, he miraculously is still getting a shot at the NFL. Can I now say "You come to UVA and you will get a NFL shot"? Can Hampton U tell recruits, come here because you will get a shot at the NFL, because Micah Pellerin was an Undrafted FA?

Hokies are the most arrogant fan base with absolutely no reason to be. You have a very good team. You have had some very good players. But, you consistently struggle against the real good teams that you try so hard to emulate. You have been better than UVA in the past, what 15 years. Is that what you want to hear? Fine, because it's true. But, stop with comparing yourselves to teams that win National Championships. You're simply not that good. Don't hold your head in shame based on how you develop DBs. Hold your head in shame because you are a Hokie.

And, for the love of God, stop coming to a rival's message board to gloat. It's very unbecoming of you.
