Bennett, Evans share special bond

On Sunday, point guard Jontel Evans buried his head tearfully in UVa head coach Tony Bennett's shoulder following an emotional comeback victory over Maryland on Senior Night.

  • All the more interesting considering that Tony isn't even the coach that Jontel signed up to play for.

  • Candidly, Bub's play has been less than stellar down the stretch (particularly the losses to Miami, BC, and FSU) and he should be thankful to TB for sticking with him. Bub Bye

Candidly, you're acting like an ungrateful jerk. I'm sorry that Jontel's play has been so far below your standards that you feel the need to use his special occasion to criticize. There's a time and place.

  • Thanks for the lecture on maturity, Dad. I'll take that under advisement, quiksand.

My point is that Bub has benefited greatly from TB's system which places a premium on defensive play. Let's face it, he's received more playing time than he would have in many other programs where coaches would be unwilling to excuse his offensive shortcomings. Even when looking at his defensive play, I can't help but notice that his steals per minute are down more than half from last year.

I'm sorry it's so tough for people to accept my opinion that his play down the stretch is a big reason why the team is squarely on the bubble. Would we even be on the bubble without him? That's debatable. I wish him the best for the remainder of this season and beyond. Bub bye

Please. It's not about your "opinion about his play down the stretch." It's that you felt the need to express a very negative opinion in what's supposed to be the one time to thank Jontel for his contributions. (Of which there have been many, and if you missed them, that's your fault.) As if there haven't been PLENTY of other opportunities to be critical of his play. Where were you then and why did you have to show up just now to be nasty about Evans?

Topping it off by being snotty with a "don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out attitude" while acting surprised your posts aren't taken constructively, and I think it's no surprise your popularity ain't so high.

You're about 15 games too late for that incredible insight.

You could just stop being a dick about it and let the kid have his proper sendoff without bringing up what everyone else has hashed and rehashed for 3 years. If you were constructive, you'd come up with a reason for why we won so many games when we had no point guard this year (oh, we didn't do so well?) or just Teven Jones (not a slight to him, just pointing out freshmen aren't always ready to consistently contribute at the beginning of the year) and how those games might actually be what's causing us to be on the bubble. Maybe it was those losses to GMU, Delaware, etc. that are actually why we aren't already in. I'm not sure if you heard, but every analyst mostly talks about bad losses, most of which have to do with those terrible non-conference losses that we have.

Last I checked, he hasn't missed 13,392 open 3's in the last 3 games like the shooters on the team have. If they had even hit the average 3's per game that they had been hitting all year, we'd be talking about our likely matchup with FSU on Friday because we'd be the 3rd seed and probably a 9/10 seed in the NCAA.
