Baseball ???? from ESPNU game....

  • Hey guys, finally getting to watch my HOOS after a first game victory in our spring break tourney this week....question is...

The ESPN guys said that Davenport's field is being gutted after the season and they are moving the plate up five feet, they will redo the whole field and upgrade the grass turf. This is the first I have heard of this, can Jay or anyone give me some more info or show me an article? I read just about every baseball article, even if a week later and cant believe I have missed this. They said this one alone will be a million $$ and just cant believe I missed this.

Thanks, go HOOS, gotta put this 2 out rally on....

  • Jon Oliver is directly two rows in front of me. He says yes. Putting in a whole new drainage system and moving home plate up 5 feet.

Joe, as always, thanks buddy, you have always given me the time of day, hahaha, and been spot on with getting the info. Tell Jon this Wahoo says thank ( dont really have too) and see if he has any administrative positions open in the Wahoo dept, hahaha.

Thanks again, cant wait to see it. I assume something else will be in the works here soon down the road as O'Connor talked early season that he would like to see the bleachers down first become permanent.

I would also like to think that Zimm possibly could give some more money at some point with his big new extension. Obviously I would put money that Hultzen does too once he gets his future checks. Hopefully if Zimm did again ( which would be unbelievably generous) we could name something after him. Already a top 10 park in my opinion with everything there and the amenities for the players, recruits, fans, etc.

  • By "up" is that literally upwards? Or five feet towards center field?

  • 5 feet towards center.

Thanks, Joe. Great info. I've long advocated us moving home plate forward a few feet.

Thanks. A mistake IMO. BOC has never built his team on home run hitting. Derek Fisher is a triples machine and this "improvement" will turn our extra-base hits into fly ball outs or singles IMO - not necessarily home runs because they're usually line drives.

And who downvoted my question? Surely it's a legitimate one. Probably some coward who won't reveal himself, so it's pointless of me to ask, but oh well.

I agree. BOC has had tremendous success with pitching, defense, and extra base hits (not homeruns) in spacious Davenport. I worry that we'll be playing away from our strengths and into the strengths of our competition (especially teams like FSU and Miami that have a bunch of mashers on their rosters).
