Remember when we lost to michIgan. That qb was once a third stringer.

Why do you have such a boner for Metheney? Did he go to your high school or something? It is mind blowing how hard you are beating that drum. SMH

I have a boner for logic, not Metheny. When you have a close QB race leading into the season, and the 2 guys on the field aren't performing, you try out the other guy in the race.

At the end of the day, we all want the same thing. Most of us are just looking for ways to win football games. I believe trying out Metheny might lead to more wins. End of story.

I mean seriously, any idiot can see that Watford can't throw. Any idiot can see that Rocco doesn't have good instincts and buckles under pressure. Let's see what this other option brings to the table. It can't be any worse than Rocco or Watford.

My so called "boner" for Metheny isn't nearly as mysterious as the boners for Rocco and Watford.

But you are forgetting that our coaches see Metheney EVERY day. You really think that if they thought he could our perform either guy he would not be put out there?

Why do you think Rocco is not performing? His numbers are actually pretty good in the first half of games (especially before he is taken out) and good overall besides the number of interceptions. He is completing over 60% of his passes. As far as buckling under pressure... he lead us on a game winning drive against Indiana, and the game clinching drive against Georgia Tech. Both of them together have lead us to a 4-3 record and have us ranked in the top 50 in offense, so I am not sure what "logic" you are applying here.

You just can't compare practice to a real game, because you cannot simulate the high-stakes pressure of a real game in practice. Rocco hasn't done very well under pressure. The ability to thrive under pressure is the most important thing you want in a QB. If the QB can't rise to the occasion when the game or the drive is on the line, then your team isn't going to win many games. Rocco doesn't do very well in that department, and you cannot simulate that all-important factor in practice. You cannot judge Metheny solely from practice, because this all-important quality can only be tested in a real game in an important series.

Then how do you explain the final drive of the Indiana game?

Metheny secretly wore Rocco's jersey and led the team to victory!

I'll disagree with you on that one.

Aside from the two point conversion against Indiana, Rocco has not done well under pressure in my opinion.

Our running game has come up big for us in these pressure situations, not our passing game. All Rocco is doing is handing the ball off.

He has 8 interceptions against 4 TDs.

In his last outing, he was 7 for 19.

Rocco's passing game gave us absolutely nothing in the 2nd half of the GT win.

He was unable to orchestrate a single point for the team in the 2nd half against Idaho, one of the worst teams in football.

Against S. Miss, his 3 ints and 0 TDs were the difference in the outcome.

He threw 2 INTs against UNC.

He didn't throw a single touchdown and threw 2 INTs against Indiana, one of the worst teams in football.

He had a great outing against William and Mary, but they're an FCS team, that was the first game of the year.

In my assessment, William and Mary was the only truly good outing from Rocco this season, and that's not saying much.

I will say one thing, he's better than Verica was at this stage. That's all I can give him.

Watch that drive again. He was Ok, but nothing special. Rocco had 4 incomplete passes on that drive, and some of them were downright ugly.

In the end, it was our rushing game that got us into the endzone. Richardason had the 12 yard run, and Jones capped it with a 3 yard run.

On 3rd and 1 at the UVa 43, we ran for a first down.

On 3rd and 2 from the Indiana 47, we ran for a first down.

On 3rd and 4 from the Indiana, he completed a pass, but failed to get the first down. On 4th down, we ran.

In each high pressure down situation, Rocco was pretty much a non-factor.

I do think that 2-point conversion is the high point of his career.

... But it takes a true visionary to see the "aura of a champion" by the way a player stands on the sideline wearing a headset. John, my friend, you are a sage. The "honeybadger" don't care what anyone else thinks either. You are the prophetic honey badger.
