  • been seeing a lot of pessimism regarding our coming year. i really don't know why. i believe we go 8-4, give or take a win. this team may be young but has talent. I'm too excited and hype to not be optimistic; its the mike london effect.

    i say:
    UR=W
    PSU=W
    GT=L
    TCU=L
    LT=W
    DUKE=W
    UM=W
    WAKE=W
    NCst=50/50 (insiders down NC like the pack this year)
    Miami=W
    UNC=W
    VT=L

    of course, UVA always seems to lose one they aren't supposed to and win one they aren't supposed to. what say you guys?

  • 10-2; the team believes and the talent is there, young but there. These kids love playing for London and will run through walls this year.

    I called 8-4 last year, just thought some of the 8 would come against other teams than FSU and Miami.

    i wouldn't be completely shocked if we won 9-10 games, we lost a lot of we have a lot of replacements with talent and experience. not to mention the team looked pretty strong in the spring game minus a few bad snaps.

  • I'm not writing off the TCU game just yet. What with all the offseason, shall we say, shenanigans...they may not be full strength. or, at the very least they might be high.

  • It will all come down to the secondary. If that unit gels, watch out. Are the safeties still coached by Dex and corners coach by West? I thought maybe some of the coaching assistants may have been shuffled around.

  • As a UVA fan, I'm always cautiously optimistic. 7-5.

  • I think the number of losses we finish September with is the same number we end the season with. I really, really believe that.

    I see Penn St, GT, TCU, NCSU, Miami, UNC and VPI as the tough games.

    I don't think Penn State is going to have their offense together in week two and I think that negates one of our weaknesses in our secondary. I think our offense is going to produce, big.

    I like UNC at home five days after they play GT, and I like NCSU after the bye week. They beat us after a bye last year, I think we return the favor.

    I like Miami at home against a young team, and I love having 9 days to prepare for VPI and I will say it now, I do not think they will be able to replace their offensive production.

    If our defense can produce, I expect L's to GT and TCU. And that's it. I'm an optimist but I'm usually pretty on point with record predictions.

    The Dramatic NCAA Champ Run in 2012....

    ....but seriously I'm thinking anywhere from 7-10 wins with biggest difficulty being the beginning of the season because of the competition and our youth...expect great things by mid-season...GO HOOS!

    My guesses as of this exact moment on May 2, 2012 would result in a 8-4 record for the 'Hooz.

    UR = W
    PSU = W
    GT = L (This could go either way, as Reid can coach with the best when it comes to defending the option, but not having a bye week like last year and coming off of a big game vs PSU gives the edge to GT at the moment)
    TCU = L
    LT = W (Another one I don't feel too confident in one way or the other. Could be very well be like the USM game last year)
    DUKE = W (Virtually guaranteed now that All-Universe WR Tyree Watkins is no longer a blue devil)
    UM = W (The way things look right now, we might win this game 1000-0. Sorry, TerpsSoccer)
    Wake = W
    NCSt = L
    Miami = W (They'll have a much better chance of beating us if they ever get good, consistent QB play)
    UNC = W (I am so stoked for this game. You guys have no idea)
    VT = L (Could definitely go either way, and the extra couple of days to rest/prep are going to be huge. We shall see.)

    Causes for optimism: Proven QB coming back, coaching staff all coming back, zero games on the schedule that make you think "no way we can win that one"

    Causes for concern: Youth/injuries at key spots (trenches & dbs especially), possibility of QB controversy, we have no reason to believe that Special Teams have drastically improved from last year (they need to for us to get to 8-10 wins)

    CAN'T WAIT (Bart Scott voice)

  • I got to thinking after I renewed my season tickets over the weekend when my son asked me if UVA was going to be any good this year. I pulled up this years schedule and I don't see an automatic loss in any game. I've looked at all our opponents and what they had coming back and they all have question marks as we do with our defense and how fast the youngsters develop and I can say our offense should be able to put up alot of points this year. So I'm going 9-3 with our 10th win coming in a bowl game. I would however not be shocked to do even better than that.

    Wins: Richmond, Penn State, Louisiana Tech, Duke, Maryland, Wake Forest, NC State, North Carolina, VT

    Loss: GT, TCU, Miami

  • I don't think that we lose to GT, and here's why. This will be Groh's third year, so he will have basically been allowed to put in his own defensive system, with the guys that he recruited.

    And, that my firends, is why I think we beat GT this year.biggrin

  • Ill play along..

    Wins: Richmond, LTech, Maryland, Miami, Wake Forest, Duke, NC State

    Losses: PSU, TCU, Miami, UNC, GT, VT

    I just think last year UVA snuck up on a few teams. This year UVA will have everybody's attention.

    I'll go 7-6 regular season..... 1-0 bowl game

    Note: PSU and UM could go either way inmo

  • I want NC State this year. We owe them.

    Dangerous team with Glennon, however, he's like Matt Ryan with a lot more offensive talent and a huge arm.

    SteelReserve211

  • Here's my crack at it: 8-4 with a solid bowl game

    UR = W
    PSU = W
    GT = L
    TCU = L
    LT = W
    DUKE = W
    UM = W
    Wake = W
    NCSt = L
    Miami = W
    UNC = W
    VT = L

    That UNC game is a Thursday night game in Charlottesville. Mike London has a pretty good record playing on ESPN and Charlottesville will be rocking. We start a new streak and we win that one big.

    Possible.. You just really never know which team will show up when UNC comes to town. As I said there are some game that could flip to me. That is one thing that is great about College Football you just never know.

  • vtfan, what's your opinion on how Tech will do? I have them going 8-4 with losses to FlSt, Clemson, GT, and Cincy? I think your OL and the running game will struggle and that will put pressure on Thomas that he didn't see last year.

    Man you are putting me on the spot..

    The Defense will be outstanding and keep us in almost every game. Ill go

    Wins: GT, AP, Pitt, BG, Cincy, UNC, Duke, UM, FSU, BC, UVA

    Loss: Clemson

    But honestly it all depends on how the OL jells and if they can provide LT with time to throw. GT and FSU could go either way. No I do not think UVA will beat VT this year in Lane. Next year will be the year that UVA could upset VT.

    A lot of people are calling for losses against UNC and NCSU. UNC is going to be playing us at Scott in front of a violently enthusiastic crowd just 5 days after playing the triple option and Georgia Tech. We also play the Pack after a bye week. I think those details are going to stack odds in our favor in a big way those two weeks.

    I'm sorry but Florida State returns almost everyone and is bringin in even more dirty talent. They are going to destroy you.

  • I agree Hoos Inc. I think we go 4-0 against the North Carolina teams next year. The schedule really works in our favor. I love the idea of playing the Wolfpack after a bye week (revenge) and playing UNC who will only have about 3 day to prepare for us. We even have 2 extra days to prepare for Tech. If we can get through September with a 3-1 record, we are really set up to do well. Even a 2-2 record would be good.

  • its possible but playing in Lane on Thursday night is tough... EJ gets rattled pretty easy and the defense we will have could pressure him into some mistakes. FSU always has more talent that most teams. By the way most people said they were going to crush you guys.
