To say the least, UVa's Kenny Towns opened the season in grand fashion. Thanks to a pair of historic grand slams from Towns, UVa opened the 2013 campaign by drilling ECU.

    • Is Towns regarded as a pure power hitter? Would be nice to have some of that this season!

Towns does not have the frame to be considered a power hitter. He can put a jump in a ball, but I would say that four players on the team finish the season with more homers. The fact that both homers went to right field (first one aided by wind somewhat to make it a true bomb) proves that he can swing the bat well. I am just predicting that Fisher and three others will hit for higher totals when the dust settles.

    • More about Kenny Towns (following his last year of high school), who was the VirginiaPreps.com AAA Player of the Year as a senior:

Towns put together one of the better all-around seasons in recent memory up in NOVA this year. He ability at the plate was no secret coming into 2011, and he most certainly lived up to all expectations. Towns hit .544 with 6 home runs and 24 RBI. He also had an amazing season slugging percentage of 1.108. In addition to hit hitting exploits, Towns went 6-0 with a 1.77 ERA, striking out 47 batters in 35.2 innings. With Towns as the centerpiece, the Bruins went 21-6 this year, advancing to the state tournament before falling to eventual AAA champion Great Bridge 5-4 in extra innings.
