Hanson, Schautz prepared for UR

On Tuesday, UVa defensive line coach Jeff Hanson and senior defensive end Bill Schautz met with the media to discuss Saturday's opener against the Spiders.

Virginia senior defensive end Billy Schautz is fully healthy and ready to go.

Hanson talked about the progress of the defensive line over the course of fall camp and the focus on more than just rushing the passer.

When asked about the keys, Hanson didn't hesitate to say that he wants the defense to not only play fast and aggressive but also for his charges to play "physical as hell".

Schautz talked about the road to recovery after being injured in UVa's win at Florida State last season. He talked about rehabbing with senior linebacker Steve Greer and how the two competed in the weight room, when they couldn't compete on the field.

The senior defensive end also spoke about the front seven taking pressure off of the Cavaliers young secondary, the new complexities of the defensive scheme, and an improved pass rush in 2012.
