Randolph decommits from Stanford

Doug Randolph

Doug Randolph

On Wednesday night, Woodberry Forest (Va.) Woodberry Forest School linebacker Doug Randolph decommitted from Stanford. Which schools are in the hunt for the four-star 'backer?

Really hoping we can get some traction at Woodberry. Those guys seem to produce a high level FBS football player every year. I still smart over losing Olaniyan and Reynolds.

    • 3.1 is very good at Woodberry. NOT an easy school.

    • A little birdie told me that a certain LB that just decommitted from Stanford may be at the Penn State game Saturday....

    • Dude, honestly, with the scouting reports we've heard on here, why should we want this? Didn't the staff back off of him lately? I've heard multiple reports that his lateral speed and, honestly, his overall speed leave a lot to be desired. Good fit for a 3-4 pass rush specialist but not so much for us...that kind of thing. At least that's what I've heard. With Bradshaw, Kiser, and Smith on board, why burn a valuable 2014 schollie in this guy? Serious question. Every guy we add this year is a guy we can't add in '14. 85 limit is a firm one.

JO or others please tell me why I'm a dummy. I'd like to find I'm wrong, but I could've sworn we'd gotten lackluster reports on this guy's game.

He can play TE too, I think? That's all I've got to rebut with.

JO said he thought that he played stiff, but he also said that UVa would've loved to get him.

Yeah, I thought I remember hearing that exact statement 2 months ago. What has been the change of heart? If the staffs wants him, I want him. Just a little confused.

    • You have to wonder about Smith's future after his 2nd injury. That may explain the interest in bringing in another LB.

I don't know what you are talking about, man. Doug Randolph swarms at linebacker. I can't remember the last time UVa fans sat around and discussed what we didn't like about 4 star recruits that were interested in us. Well, maybe Michael Parker, but that was for very different reasons. Anytime a high-profile recruit is coming out of Woodberry Forest with good grades, we should be the school to beat. I'm sick of woodberry kids wandering west to the other academic powerhouses. Personally, I would love to have him, and not because of stars. The only reason Randolph doesn't have a mountain of offers is because he committed so early. He swarms around the field and wreaks havoc. While I can understand that we have our fair share of Linebackers in this class, I think it would be hard to pass on Doug Randolph. It's sort of like taking Corwin when we already had too many QBs. How do you pass up bigtime talent when it comes along? It will be interesting to see what the staff does here.

    • He could not be a nicer kid. He is strong as an ox with good straight line speed. The staff knows infinitely more than me on these things, so I will just wait and see. Doug was a very good basketball player while he was at Collegiate before did the high school redshirt at WFS. He was an average lacrosse player but started on good Collegiate and WFS teams, so he has some athleticism without question. I had a hard time seeing him on the west coast.

Fit schmit. He's a consensus four-star player. I worry about the limit of 85 as well, but more in terms of every player over 14 that we take this year is one that we lose off our current roster. When it comes to 2014, this is like two birds in the hand is worth one in the bush. It's not like the 2014 class is gonna be so loaded with five-stars that a four-star guy is gonna prevent us from taking one.
